Best milsurp sniper rifle

my mosin pu sniper I just got..... now im looking for a k98 sniper...

best milsurp sniper, my vote goes for the k98 they seem to be all round best(accuracy,reliable,etc)

I have handled a minty one that came into Pullens last year (shouldered it and looked through the scope) for about 5 min, some one bought it almost as soon as it came in.

It was a serious piece of kit, built like a tank.
 
I'm partial to the Mausers myself but in my experience you'll get pretty much the same results from a Mosin, k98 and an Enfield with the right shooter. It all depends on the personal preferences of the person using the rifle.
 
i would vote for the Mosin Nagant M91-30
i remember seeing a documentary on discovery where they explained how much easier it was to zero the mosin scope and how reliable it was compared to the mauser

In terms of reliability, I would prefer the Mosin. It could digest the worst of wartime ammunition, it would function in -50 degrees below, and it has a long barrel for accuracy over distance. It would beat the Mauser on any Eastern Front day. Once you install the bent bolt the Mosin becomes much easier to cycle too (not easier than the mauser but easier than the regular mosin).

The Germans always had engineering and the Soviets always had reliability. It depends what you prefer.
 
To hopefully dissuade you from spending money on a rifle that can't be fired comfortably, I do not recommend either the M1C or M1D. The scope is off-centre and I found it required an extra step in my aiming cycle to make sure the rifle was flat and level. It was an unpleasent shooting experience. Saddly, I would add the Ross and Pattern 1914 rifles in the same category.

The No.4T has a proper cheekrest for the elevated scope line of sight. Many post war target rifles appeared with that cheekrest added so the shooter could see through the iron sights more comfortably.

The SVT and Moisin sniper rifles do not have cheekrests and are very unergonomic. It seems that if the designers had been a half a wit smarter, there would have been even more dead enemies from the men using those rifles.

The German Mauser rifles are beautiful, but by virtue of the German WWII supply system they rifles are not much better than ruggedized hunting rifles. The Germans did understand the importance of properly equiped sharpshooters. All G43/K43 rifles have a scope base machined into the receiver sidewall, and a certain percentage of them were issued with a low-power small diameter telescope.

"...No love for the M1903A4?..." Mine will shoot one hole groups with carefully loaded 168 grain match bullets. Paid $175Cdn for it, sans scope, in the early 80's. It wears a 2.5X- 8X Scopechief.
Should have bought an M1D/C when they were $250ish, just on the principle, but I shoot left. Kicking myself anyway.
Band of Brothers isn't an accurate portrayal of U.S. snipers. No left handed shooters allowed to start with. At least not currently. In any case, sniping isn't so much about the rifle as it is about the team.

For the Mosin, the designers had created a rifle that would not break in any condition, was so simple it could be fired by a retarded chimpanzee with one eye and would still be able to take down any enemy presented.
Cheek rests take extra time and effort to make - not something you look into when you have a couple million enemy soldiers marching in on you.

And despite poor ergonomics, I can guarantee that there has never been a rifle made that has scored more kills than the Mosin, and the SVT was remarkably popular with the Germans, who far preferred it over their K98 and G43 Snipers.

My vote goes for the Mosin-Nagant. Unbreakable, Simple, Effective.
