Hey all, I am doing some loads up for something to do while I recouperate from surgery and I have never used Sierra GameKings before. These are .30 cal 150 grainers and I am going to try them out in the '06 . Just want input as to how they have performed for you on game and on targets. :canadaFlag::canadaFlag::canadaFlag:

only experience on game with a Gameking was a 6.5mm 140gr on a deer. It came apart at 250 yards (2600 fps muzzle vel). Not impressive. Killed the deer instantly, but I was not impressed on the weight retention of the bullet. I'd hate to think of what would of happened if I hit the shoulder bone, might of lost the deer

150gr in 30-06 should work good on smaller big game like deer, but I would avoid bad shot angles where a tougher bullet like a nosler partition or barnes TSX would penetrate, Gameking most likely will not

Use gamekings in my 7mm STW, with no problem 175gr. 3050 @ the muzzle. Good accurate bullet, hits hard.... Have used them in 13 other clibers never had an issue.

game king bullets are for handloading queen hunters
I must be in this group.........

Used the 165gr Gameking with IMR4065 and it's a thumper. Both my buddy and I pull beautiful groups at the range, and I've never had a deer travel more than 20 yds before going down. If I find the target I shot, I'll attach the photo.

I'm using 165g Spitzer boat tails, and IMR 4064 and have had excellent results on paper. I'm hoping to find out how well they do on deer this Nov. :D

The good news is that these bullets are finaly reaching the store shelves after being back ordered most of the summer. The bad news is that some stores are charging crazy prices. This is NEW inventory, so they were purchased when our dollar is doing well, yet I had a place in Hamilton quote me $49.99 a box :eek::eek:

For my 308 Norma Magnum, the 200gr BT has been one of my favorites, and primarily for the accuracy. I have used them on Deer and Moose without problem but at the urging/suggestion of some people, I'm in the process of change over to Barnes TTSX.

The 117gr BT has given me exceptional accuracy in my 25-06. One target has a three shot group of 0.486", shot at 185 yds.

My father and I have used them for 20 years in .308 win, 338 win mag and 375H&H, and I use them in my 375 RUM as well (no game shot yet...). Never had a problem and found them very accurate. I do know that Sierra makes the jacket of their bullets heavier depending on weight, even on bullets of the same diameter. 150's in .308 WILL have a thinner jacket than 180's. If you are loading your 30-06 to the max, 150's will come apart more than 180's. At mid range velocities on deer however, they would be a very good bullet.

I have used them with no complaints.

BUT, for deer i would use a heavier bullet -say the 180. The 150 is explosive if you get a close shot. the 180 does less meat damage.

Dead is still dead.

Also nice to use one bullet for deer and bigger critters.

The Sierra Pro-Hunter holds together better than the Game Kings. Sierra technician told me this, and I have found it to be so in the .284 and .308 diameter bullets. Game Kings are really not a great bullet but I have had good performance from the Sierra Pro Hunters at non-magnum velocities.

Seems like there are more IMR fans out there than Hodgson fans... I'm wondering if I should go grab some IMR to contrast my Varget.
game king bullets are for handloading queen hunters, I'd only trust them on deer.
Didn't I see a post you made the other day saying that you just started reloading .303 and that your first load resulted in a case head separation?

How is it that you've gained this position on Sierra Game King bullets and what experience do you have to back your claims?

Killed a deer , nice buck at 258 lbs, at 200 meters ., the 165 gameking hit the deer broadside thru the heart, left it in 2 perfect halves, and exited thru the other side of the rib cage leaving a small hole but a tube sock of lung hung out that hole of about baseball size or less. it was an 06 , ruger #1 B . There was a mess of blood on the snow for the 10 meter run.

Didn't I see a post from you the other day about someone reloading .308 with pistol primers? I'd rather that the problem be caused by my equipment which is a lot easier to fix than incompetence.

The only thing I didn;t like about the 180 gr GameKings was the lack of a canellure.
Other than that, pretty nice bullets, consistent weight, smooth shiny surfaces. Sub MOA on top of 53gr H4350.

I use the 165 gr Spitzer Gamekings in my 06 and they shoot very nice. A guy I work with likes the 165 HP Gamekings and absolutely swears by them, but I haven't been able to find any in stores to try out.

This year I'm using a 300 WSM instead of '06 and I'm going with Nosler CT ballistic tips in 168 gr to compare. I'll probably try the Sierras in the 300 later too just for kicks.

The Sierra Pro-Hunter holds together better than the Game Kings.
That is true because Pro-Hunter are designed with a thicker jacket for use at shorter ranges with max energy available. Game Kings tend to be boat tail with thinner jacket for opening with less energy at longer ranges.
That being said, I shoot a 200lb buck broadside at about 90 yards with a 140gr 277 Game King. After recovering the bullet it weighed in at 96gr. Not bad retention and it had opened perfectly. Also I find them very accurate even out to ranges between 300yd to 500yd, at the range of course.
