I have an early model 1911A1, made sometime in the 1940s.
The sights on it are very minimal and id like to replace them with larger ones

anyone know where i could pick up a set??

thanks! :D

Stop!

Before you change anything, consider whether the change will reduce the value of the firearm.

The pistol you have may be collectible and any change may destroy it's special value.

There are many good sources of replacement sights, but I hesitate to recommend any source of sights for that reason.

If you post a pic we can be more specific.

I found this old thread of yours.
I guess that you've already considered this issue.

Order a Brownells 1911 catalog. There are a wide variety of sights for the 1911. From this selection you can decide which best meets your needs and you can go from there.

Please don't Bubba a collectible Milsurp. Get a Norinco if you want something to customise.

That the same pistol you asked about in March? Nothing has changed.
"...have an early model 1911A1, made sometime in the 1940s..." That's not an early pistol. 1911A1's came about in 1926. Sistema production began in 1927.
U.S. made pistol manufacture dates by S/N are here.

However, if it's a milsurp, like Wendell says, changing the sights will drop its value by half. The days of milsurp 1911A1's being good project pistols are long gone. Issue pistols bring high 4 figure prices these days. Three grand and up. Especially W.W. II vintage pistols. Depending on condition, of course. Some manufacturer's bring more than others too. Even Sistema's. Mind you, a Sistema won't bring high 4 figures.
