Hi Power Holster

I'm about to deploy to Afghanistan (literally, I leave in less than a month), and was suddenly issued a pistol after months of being told there weren't enough to go around. I hate the issue holster, and I'm looking for an appropriate substitute - at this point even the kit shop is sold out of right-handed holsters.

I'm mainly inside the wire and spend most of my day at a desk, so I was actually thinking a shoulder holster would be more practical for me, or a leg drop with an extender that will actually bend, instead of the stiff one on the issue Bianchi. Any suggestions on where to find something on short notice? I'm a milsurp collector, so I know all about old Hi Power holsters, but I'm less familiar with the current stuff.

The issue gun-tainer is a green Bianchi M-whatever with an extender. I didn't mind it as a way of carrying my issue pistol. I had a spare garrison dress belt and used it over my pants belt. As long as you get the habit of hiking the holster up on your leg when you sit down, it isn't any trouble.

A shoulder rig has a tendency to fall forward as you lean over. The issue one has a square thingey in the middle of the back that needs to be adjusted to both look symetrical and feel comfortable.

Yeah, that's the one I have. Not a fan. I think all the shoulder holsters allotted to the BG went to the senior officers, I was literally the second last guy to get a pistol. I might not even get a mag pouch.

I have a shoulder holster very much like the old US M3 for my 1911, and I quite like it, but obviously it won't fit a Hi Power or be acceptable for wear in KAF. Anything like that on the market?

A shoulder rig is good to use because you only need to use you elbow to know that the gun is still there and ready to go..

Don't know what they allow you to have in the military. My opinion is to get some thing that fits comfortably and that's not too bulky. Galco utilizes very good workmanship and materials. Their shoulder rigs are very good.

If you want some thing for a thigh rig, blade tech, utilize a swivel buckle that rotates when the user is seated.

Give Darren at One Shot Tactical a call, he has a Blackhawk Serpa for the Hi-Power.

I second the Serpa. Have one, use it, love it!! The drop leg rig has two straps that go on either side of your pocket so you can still get to your pocket. Not a big deal, but nice. It also has quick release buttons so you can easily remove the holster if you don't want to wear it with a gun belt.

I went in as a REMF but knew I'd be doing a a few runs outside the camp as well. So I ended up with a borrowed thigh rig for countryside excursions but wanted a shoulder set up for day-to-day camp wear. Supply at home issued me the Bianchi shoulder rig and I hated it the moment I took it out of the bag: bad fit, flimsy, clunky, generally poorly designed. When I showed up in theatre, my unit QM issued me a better shoulder rig, but I have no idea who manufactured it. It had the pistol pouch under the left pit, a built-in double mag pouch under the right pit and two straps (one for around the back, one for around your stomach). Almost everyone put both straps around their backs, or curled them up and gun taped them so there were no straps across their backs at all. I'll dig around and see if I can find a decent pic.

There were a pile of these running around KAF a year ago and year pretty much the standard issue for Cdn guys wearing a HP. With a couple of strategic cuts in the stitching, it could also fit the Sig, for those that chose the 225.

Edited for pics. Click on the thumbnail for bigger. Not great, but it gives you the idea. It was simple rig and it did the trick.
