Project Completed -- 375 RUM Defense Rifle Project Need Suggestions :)

"WOW" I called Brownells last week I had completely forgotten that the first time I bought from them I was set up with a business account because I was a business owner at the time so instead of having to pay $65.00 for a rear Tall Weaver XS Ghost Ring Backup sight I only had to pay $45.00.
The sight arrived this morning...
I had bought the Leupold QRW bases & medium rings from WWS when I was in Kamloops and mounted them right away.
Still can't decide which front sight to get or what barrel length to cut the barrel too leaning towards 20" but thinking 21” – 22” maybe better.
Messed around with and mounted an older Burris Full Field 11 1X EER scope mounted it with low Leupold QRW rings that I already had.

Nice bear, great setup for those parts, and I would say that Burris is better glass than the Leupold was in the dark stuff.
I like the peep
, but that burris sure looks the part up there.
I would go 20 inch with some sort of brake to dampen the blast .
Muzzle Brake is only 2 1/2" Long.Muzzle Brake
will reduce recoil by 50 % to 65% ,in rifle and guns and ,
are much easier to aim and handle, resulting in "better hits"
Important for the Big Magnums.Used for calibers 222Rem,
cal.22/250Rem, cal.243 Win,cal.6mm PPC,cal.2506 Rem,
cal.6.5mm, cal.270Win,7mm REM Mag,308W,300WM
8mm Rem Mag, 338Mag, and out through,the largest
magnum rifles like cal 375, and 460, for the big and dangerous

It's looking great! You're going to need a high front sight for that puppy. What are you thinking of? A post or a bead? I like a nice big brass bead.
You may want to think about installing the ramp a 1/2 inch back from the crown. It makes it easier to tape your muzzle (yet leave the front bead visible) to protect it from debris when you're in dirty bush (when do prospectors ever get to slog through good bush?).
As for barrel length, 20"-21". It will be so handy in the bush.

It's looking great! You're going to need a high front sight for that puppy. What are you thinking of? A post or a bead? I like a nice big brass bead.

, and also have a primary , Kahles 2x7 , 26 mil tube.Putting the front sight back 1/2" is an excellent idea Geo, thanks for sharing it.
I find I can see green/red fiber optic front sights the best and NECG has different height red fiber optic sights that would work perfectly if I go with their Masterpiece Banded Front Ramp.
I sent NECG an e-mail last night asking for help on figuring out the front sight height I will need. but I see that Brownell's sells the same sight but in S/S so I'll probably buy it from them @ dealer cost.
Another thing I like about NECG front sight blades is they are interchangable so I can always have a spare and quickly change it if it is needed.

It's tough to decide on a front sight height because if your barrel is tapered it will depend on the OD of your barrel at the point that you cut it to ie. the shorter you cut your tapered barrel, the larger the OD and the higher your front sight will be.
When I chopped my 602 to 20" I re-installed the original front sight and it shot way low and I had to install the lowest front sight that CZ makes. Fortunately it shoots to POA at 100 yards with the 100 yard leaf.

An NECG sight in stainless? are you sure its not just carbon steel in the white?

I ordered a new in the white NECG Masterpiece banded front sight ramp and red fiber optic front post from Brownell's a couple weeks ago and picked them up yesterday morning @ my local Canada Post.
I had to come over to Vancouver Island this morning so contacted and then dropped everything off @ Guntech's this afternoon.
He is going to work out the creep on the trigger and adjust it to 4 lbs, shorten the barrel to 21", blue and install the front sight ramp, unfortunately he has a few jobs to do and a hunting trip to go on before he can get to my rifle so I'm looking at 6 to 7 weeks before I get the rifle back.

With some 380 grainers and a good stiff load of RL-25 it will jump some too!

6 weeks more like 6 days...
I just got home from a trip with my 2 1/2 week old son today, Dennis had called me and told me that he was able to get the rifle finished and shipped back to me now I can hardly wait to get my hands on it.
Dennis thanks for being so quick on getting it done and I have to say it looks great even better than I hoped.
I forgot to mention that Dennis also did a bit of fine tuning to my glass bedding job that I had done myself so the action/lug fits far better now.
All I need to do now is find a Kick-Eez recoil pad and install it.

My Kick-Eez recoil pads haven't arrived from Brownell's yet so I stole the one off of my 300RUM for now.
It's now 4:55pm Friday afternoon and due to family plans I don't have time to get to the range till Sunday at the earliest, it has still never been fired so I need to break it in as well as sight it in.
I'll try and get some pic's soon...

I am an African hunting guide and my choice for backup is a .375 RUM which I built on a Montana long action with Pacnor barrel. I use premium grade 380gr roundnose bullets with excellent results for dangerous game and 300 gr Barnes TSX for everything else. .375RUM burns a lot of powder and I would'nt shorten the barrel if I have choice.
I also have a full length 26" barreled Rem 700 LSS in 375RUM that has been my primary hunting rifle for a few years now, this shortened rifle project if it does what I am hoping it will all is good if not lesson learned.
I work solo in very remote wilderness areas of British Columbia and having a rifle for defense use that can do everything that my Marlin 1895GS 45-70 can do and still be able to reach out to 400 yards for hunting is my goal.
