Barrett 50 cal.

Hummmmm, where do you get your information on classing the .Barrett .50 as being not so accurate??!! If memory serves me correct a CANADIAN SNIPER made a confirmed KILL at over 2600yrds!!!! Now if you don't call that accurate I don't know what is. For a rifle that can easily shoot targets better then a 1000yrds i hardly call that a "not so accurate rifle"!!! Just my opinion!

I believe Rob Furlong was using a .50-caliber McMillan Brothers Tac-50 rifle.
from here

"Rifles of the Tac-50 family are capable of outstanding accuracy and guaranteed to provide 0.5 MOA groups with match grade ammunition"
from here

Well someone should call Barrett Firearms and tell them, cause they are using it in their accomplishments list of what the Barrett .50 has done throughout it's history! It's on there list as holding the longest confirmed kill with their gun!!

Partly from personal experience, I have shot almost every make or configuration of 50 caliber rifle on the market and several that never made it to production and partly from being in the industry for a hell of a long time.

Not sure about where you got your info from, I just looked at Barrets site and could not find any reference, if you could post a link I would appreciate it. I am NOT calling you out on this I would just like to see the reference so I can mention it to Ronnie when I see him later this fall.

Rob Furlong did NOT use a Barret 50 , of THAT I am positive of.

what a wierd thread. 50 and accuracy in the same sentence. Fix your 8 MOA flinch and than worry about the Barret 2 MOA accuracy, its for taking out hard targets not skinning nutsacks off turtles.

The last price I saw on an AS50 was in excess of $19,000 and then they said that due to the number of mil orders, they wouldn't be selling them to civillians for the foreseeable future. Did that change?

Seeing him aiming the rifle with the mag missing suggests he is wishful thinking. And given the close proximity of that straw I think he would have a fire on his hands very shortly after a few rounds were fired.

'Barrett was part of a stage at a 3-gun... unfortunately it done broke part way thru the shoot so yeah... wishfull at that point. :(
On a happier note... this years match will feature a ma-duece for the stage :)

The 50 is for whatever use it's owner puts it to, accuracy at range is a very common (civillian) purpose, that's why MacMillan wastes it's time guaranteeing .5 MOA. Statements like this make you sound like Wendy -"no sporting use"

For those who want an Accuracy international
From wolverine supplies:
The AS50 rifle system was originally designed in conjuction with the US Military. As part of their agreement, Accuracy International will not sell the AS50 rifle to civilians anywhere.

Cheers,

The problem with forums like this is statements like "50 and accuracy in the same sentence." from those who really have no clue. What total horse sh.t!!
And YES I know who you are, I have built you a couple of rifles, but that does not change things for me.
I am curious, have you ever shot a 50?
Any flinch is strictly from poor shooting form or shooting a rifle that does not fit you and over the course of shooting it you have developed a bad habit (flinch).
The 50s can be just as accurate as any smaller caliber in the right configuration. The rifles we build here are easily capable of 1/2 moa and better. The Barret being a battle rifle is normally only capable of 1.5 to 2 moa which given its intented use as an anti material rifle, is plenty good enough.
There are many of us 50 cal shooters who are able to produce 2.5 to 3.0" or better groups at 1000 yards.

Barretts are prohib by name according to the girl on the phone in mirimishi (sp).
I've heard rumours of a bolt action one that's not but again you can't get it shipped here from the U.S. because THEY won't let it leave.
There are others available here in Canada, Rick at ATRS makes one, The Styer is available and PGW makes one also Barnard has a 50 action available from Ian in Ottawa (I'd love to see them make a barrell for it, laff)

Alot of private ranges allow them, alot of Military ranges allow them, they are NON restricted, not sure if they're allowed for hunting purposes though.

Prairie gun works in the front, Styer in the background.
