Hi Guys and Gals

I'm looking to get a AR in 9mm at a non restricted lenth.

(1) is this possible?
(2) who makes a good set up
(3) what do they cost

I have no real experence with these rifles (any calibre) beside shooting the friends odd one

I want it for fun (odd close range coyote) and I alredy reload 9mm so I don't have to worry about the ammo to much cause i have it for the pistols

Thanks for the help

Pics would be great

Rofl non restricted. Sorry buddy that isn't happening, an AR is always restricted regardless of barrel length. Buy a CX4 and have it rebarreled if you want a 9mm that is non res.

1.- Nope, all AR variants regardless of the caliber or barrel lenght are restricted
2.- Depends for which purpose ; obviously a 9mm AR won't be the best suited for long range shooting as a .223 would be
3.- To my knowledge, there are only 2 brands of 9mm ARs on the Canadian market : Colt (3000$+) and Rock River Arms (1200-1500$)

Unless a coyote crosses the firing line of your shooting club, you're pretty much screwed if you planned to shoot coyotes with an AR. Sorry.

Not sure if you'd consider it a look-alike but the Swiss Arms black special is non-restricted. (it's not 9mm though)

Sure as hell ain't cheap either ($3K)- non-restricted "black" rifles are rarely cheap, you can get a Vz 858 for about $700 and it'll shoot relatively cheap surplus 7.62x39 - if you're into the 'not quite an AK' look. There's also the Mini 14, and the AR-180B which you might find used.

I think i'm going to catch alot of crap on this one

Don't worry about it, if you did not know then you didn't know. How else were you to find out? That's what this place is for.

As for an non restricted AR looking gun... that would be the AR-180. But they are discontinued and a bit hard to find. They do show up on the EE every once and a while though.

No harm meant by my comments, the cheap, non-restricted, black rifle is kind of the Holy Grail of many shooters, that's why there are so many aftermarket do-dads for rifles like the Mini 14. There is also the Robinson XCR, very cool because it's non-restricted, 223 cal and uses AR mags (including the 10 round 'pistol' mags) again not cheap at $2500 ish. The wierd thing is that they sell out almost as soon as - and in some cases before, they arrive at the wholesaler.

If you are patient you can cobble together a perfectly good AR for a reassonable amount of $

Someone here recently posted their tale of assebling an AR by buying bits and pieces here and there.. off the cgn EE etc.

The first step is to buy a stripped lower and go from there as time and $$ permits.
I just put together a 9mm AR using all new parts and it's cost came to just over $1100... Buy used bits and who knows... you could get it done for less.

Looking at the ar180b on the EE
are parts hard to get for these to add the bipods and colapsble stocks scope rails

I owned an ar180b once.... Unless your wanna go hunting, get an AR.
It might sound blasphemous to some, but I think the 180 is a POS. You can't compare the 180b to the AR... Hell, I wouldn't even compare the 180b to a real 180.... :D

Buying a 180b and then sinking more $$ into it to kewlify it is just throwing good money after bad... You'll spend the same or more as what a good AR will cost and still only have a ####tyy rifle.

Make one of those "Paper AR15" like on YouTube. Ya Baby, it's all paper and glue and go chase coyotes!!!

Cz 858

It sounds like the CZ would be hard to beat for your purpose. You get ammo for just over 1/3 of the price of .223. You can get the non-restricted version. You can get folding stocks and all the other tacticool add-ons including the new scout scope/red dot mount from Wolverine. And the gun is not very expensive. Sounds like it's fairly reliable too.

Off course, I don't have one yet, this is all based on countless hours online and reading gun magazines. I will get one as soon as I get back from work in Europe. Sounds like a great tool for training a lot without braking the bank.
