PING? - just one tone deaf man's perspective

I admit, due to some ignorant younger years, I have some hearing loss and can ill afford to lose anymore, so I double up hearing protection on the range. Can't hear it then.

But the only thing close to this descripted "ping" I can hear is when I load a snap cap in and cycle the action when I am at home.

When the bolt locks in the forward position, there is a slight ringing like a tuning fork that can be heard.

The ping is supposed to be a happy, singular occurrence, isn't it? Dropping the rifle in the stock, doing the test, and hearing that little ring and getting that thumbs up in one's mind.

No point in getting multiple orgasms over the same little test. :D

If your M14 does not 'ping' , yer #### will fall off! :nest:

We love you Laz... I got a kick outta that rant!

Okay, another perspective.... when another CGNutter was shooting my Poly M14 this week, not only was I listening to the BOOM , of the .308, but also the long ping'ing ring AFTER the BOOM! :D Wow, was that ever fun!

Barney

When are you coming this way Barney???? There are atleast three of us and soon probably four that have M14s in need of the laying of hands by the proffet Hungry.

Heal with thy hands oh sage one!

O.K. - not bad for an out of the box $399 gun and Hertinberger ammo. A decent 10 rounds into 4-5"

Add one Roster33 spring guide, some light reading of Glen Zediker's loading for M14's and of course Barney's black magic:

Loads plotted together to show total group. This thing has gained a substantial increase in accuracy from the minor work that was done.
If anyone is on the fence, thinking they can't be bothered with the tweeks, think again.:D

Barney, if you are planning a clinic out west anytime let us know, I have a Springfield M1A longing for your attention. I also have a Socom 16, courtesy Morpheus32, that loves any chance I give it to go out to the range! And neither cares what 'ping' noise it makes.

"ping" is only heard with Springfields (made in US).
But if the rifle is a made in China M305 (Norinco or Polytech),
then the ping is better described as a ping-pong.

PS Hey, Lazerus, the 80's called, they want their pony-tail back.

Why am I picturing Hungry holding said polytech, next to Geddy Lee in a sound studio waiting on feedback from the sound engineer?:onCrack:

More importantly, why am I picturing Hungry with feathered hair down to his waist on the back cover of Fly By Night?

I timed my ping on the new Poly, it only lasts for 2 seconds, somewhere another poster said he got a whole 5 seconds out of his. Is my rifle defective?...laughs...Loved the "rant", nothing like reading a good well written articulate rant to give me a laugh in the morning. Well done...
