FWIW Laz, I didnt know about the ping or ring until I went to one of Tom and your clinics. I just shot mine, didnt try to make music with it until YOU showed me how!

A little off topic but when playing Call Of Duty World at War the Garand in the Game does exactly that, fairly good rendition for a video game!!!!!

Barney, if you are planning a clinic out west anytime let us know, I have a Springfield M1A longing for your attention. I also have a Socom 16, courtesy Morpheus32, that loves any chance I give it to go out to the range! And neither cares what 'ping' noise it makes.

I wonder if that's my old Socom, in any case I'm glad its treating you well. I enjoyed mine (to expensive for me). Now I have a worked on Norc.

Haha, well the other day i was going to the range with the M14 and we hit a few bumps in the road I heard a few pings here and there. And I just got a vortex for my AR and the ping is beautiful.

Or you could toss an empty clip on the ground and shoot the fools that rush out!

How do you get a rifle to ping?

First you have to give it a name, apparently it doesn't matter if its a ###y, ho-hum, sensual, generic or normal name either.

Took mine out for its maiden voyage yesterday, lotsa fun surprisingly accurate, for my son anyway. Couldn't hear any ping and because of you guys I was listening for it. Nice boom though, sounds softer than my bolt action stuff. Gotta get me some dies, this one's a keeper but she's a hungry #####.

i thought the ping test was for the flash suppresor? if it pinged it didn't have damage, cracks ect. but i will say after reading these posts, i had to try it. with a nm spring guide it does resinate quite long. not so much with a standard norinco gi type.

edit- i didn't mean calking your rifle the fs would ping. what i meant if you tapped the fs it should ping.

Only in video games, doesn't take too long to reload a M1 with another Enbloc clip and no enemy solider is going to risk their live because they heard a "ping", although if they can hear the ping they are way too close anyways.
