I am not up to speed on the use of lead shot in Canada for hunting.
Any lead shot bans outside waterfoul hunting?

More interesting question is where are the laws going?
Is lead shot allowed for upland game or clays in California?

The Canadian wildlife service does not like lead shot, it is banned even for upland hunting on all land that they administer - national wildlife areas. California would ban lead in all it's uses if they could. Lead hunting rifle bullets are the latest "target" of California legislators.

Non toxic shot (non lead shot) is allowed for waterfowl in Manitoba as well as a ALL of Canada. The US also demands that non toxic shot is used for all waterfowl since the early 90s. Lead shot is ONLY allowed on upland birds in Canada and the US. Woodcock and Snipe are not Upland birds!!!!!!!!! Check with your local jurisdiction about which type of ammo to use!!

Henry;)

Lead is allowed for only 1 type of waterfowl Turres (murres). I dont know why but it's allowed. I guess because you can only successfully hunt them with a boat.

Best to read the regulations. My understanding is LEAD is banned for migratory birds in ONT as in all other Provs. Is ok to use for other hunting - grouse-rabbits etc in ONT anyway.

AFAIK migratory brids are still the only type of game that MUST be hunted with non-toxic shot, but check your individual province's regs just to be sure.

"Non-toxic shot must be used in all areas of Canada to hunt migratory game birds, except for woodcock, Band-tailed Pigeons, and Mourning Doves. Within National Wildlife Areas, the possession of lead shot is prohibited for all hunting, including the hunting of migratory birds and upland game birds. Hunters should consult provincial or territorial regulations for additional restrictions."

Except turres in newfoundland. Lead shot is allowed, that is the only exception. The only reason is you have to go offshore in a boat in order to hunt them.

The ban on lead for waterfowl is federal legislation so it's the same across the board. Upland birds are covered by provincial legislation and therefore it may vary.

Make sure you aren't in possession of any lead shot while hunting waterfowl as it's illegal to even have it with you.
