Ok so I was at the range shooting my CZ75 Omega and this fella who is a very well known IPSC shooter comes up and gives me some tips on shooting which really helped and then asks to see my gun. Well apparently he only shoots CZ's and he showed me his SP-01 and the trigger was unreal. It was about 4-5 pounds and crisp. He also had some cool thin-checkered aluminum grips with some kind of "sandy" grip tape on the front.

Anyhow after some talk he said he could tune my CZ trigger for around $200 and then get the grips and put them on ( I know no big deal..) with the tape for about $130.

Is this about standard pricing for this kind of work ?? Really considering he is at my club ( local) knows what he is doing, has all the parts I think I should do this regardless but I was just wondering.

Got a CZ85 Combat used from EE and had trigger work done locally by a registered gunsmith. It was less than $200. A lot of shooters may think they have the technique down, but my advise is go to your local gunshops and then ask around a lot to see which gunsmith is proficient with your type of firearm and spend then same money or less to have a quality job done. My DA is now 7 lbs. and SA at 3 lbs. Love my 226 (so accurate) but this is now a close second.

SKS Russian Tula 1950, 1952 and 1953, Sig Sauer P226, Beretta 92 SBC, CZ85 Combat, Para P14 45 Ltd., Para P16 40 Ltd., SigPro 2022 .40S&W, Marlin 60

You can get grip tape at most snowboard/skateboard shops. I bought a huge sheet (36" x 9") for $7. Just cut out the shapes you need. Works great!

I am not conerned about the quality of the work from this guy at all as he has been tuning CZ's for years and really only works on CZ's these days.

As far a local gunsmiths around here ( Kelowna) there is one that I know of and he would charge double...if not more.

Lot's of good parts here. (take out spaces)

ya I know but I have no idea what parts to get and how to do it. I wnat my 12lb trigger around 7 lbs or so

very stiff prices for a tune up...

better sell your CZ 75 and spent the money plus the $350.00 for the eventual tune up, and get a Shadow, which is ready with a great trigger etc...

Think of it this way:

- Shadow comes in 9mm only, is yours 9mm or .40? 9mm will allow to compete in Production only; if your gun is .40 - you can compete in L10;

- crunch your numbers before you sell one gun and replace it with another. It may actually be cost effective to get your trigger job done. Also, find out from that guy what the job includes. (eg. springs, sear reshaping, etc).

- are you happy with the stock sights, if not, you may wanna consider them replaced and that would be a move towards re-thinking gun exchange for the Shadow.

Well a shadow would be fine and dandy but having dry fried one before the trigger is not like the one I would be getting.

I have no plans to compete at IPSC. I used to compete big time at trap and due to certain events I had to quit, no competing for me, I just want to hit the target well with a good gun as I have in the CZ.

It may actually be cost effective to get your trigger job done.

For sure. Even if I was to sell my CZ I would have to a hit ( paid $650) even though it is 3 months old and only has 300 rounds through it. The trigger job is the way to go and besides I like my gun.

Also, find out from that guy what the job includes. (eg. springs, sear reshaping, etc).

Good call. I am not sure exactly and I would have to ask him. The other thing is that I would have a two day turn around. If I sent it away for a trigger job I would have shipping cost and huge wait time.

Now what if I did some of it myself, like replace the springs or something else. Would I get a trigger closer to what I saw on his gun. Is there a instruction maunal of some kind on how to do this ? I don't think I am incapable as I have done a little bit of stuff on my rifles.

What do you guys think ?? Anyone done this to their CZ ??

The easiest way to get your trigger pull down is to install a 13# or 15# mainspring. You can get the springs from CZ Custom out of the US for under $10. US. You can do that yourself. Your D/A pull will fall to around 6#'s. With range time your trigger will smooth out.

If you want to go further have installed a competition hammer. Competition sights aid in targtet acquisition particularly if you go to a fibre optic front sight.

ahhh now we are talking. I can get the mainspring and grips from CZ custom.
My trigger pull right now must be about 12 lbs and if a 13# mainspring will drop it to 6 lbs I would be happy. Now where do I go to learn how to change this mainspring. Thanks for the great idea.

Also, depending on what loads you are to shoot (factory vs light) you may as well get lighter recoil spring (or 2-3) from czcustom too.

For sear (trigger job) re-shaping, go here:

And, Shadow has no FPB but 75B does thus extra parts get engaged and trigger being not as crisp. FPB is easy to remove :)

Remove your grips. Punch out the retaining pin at the base of the frame , you will see it. That releases the tension on the mainspring. Remove the plug, then the spring. Insert new spring and reverse the process. Be careful when you put the plug back in as it will be under tension and it can fly off to parts unknown after it puts a dent in your ceiling. Don't ask....

ps Order the 15# spring as well. You may get light strikes with the 13# spring. I haven't experienced them in either of my SP-01's or my CZ 85C but you might, others have.

Canuck44 your awesome. Thanks for saving me a ton of money. I am going ot place my order tonight. As far a grips go do I just buy the regular grips ?? There are checkard ones and non checkard ones and buy the looks of things some come with grip tape. I like the non checkard ones but they may not fit ??

I appreciate that all things aren't the same to all folks but I don't care for the Aluminum grips and don't think they are worth the money, frankly. Take a look at these grips from Dennis Marshal. He is located in Hungry of all places. If you place an order he will email yo back with the anticipated date of shipment. I ordered grips for my Shadow from him and they are excellent, shipped when he said they would be shipped and excellent value for the money.

A lot of the guys from the CZ Forum have ordered them for their guns and all to my knowledge have been varied satisfied.

I personal don't think those aluminum grip worth that kind of money. aside from replace the main spring, you can also polish the trigger group. the spring will lighten the pull but after polished, it will become butter smooth.

Details can visit cz forum.com.

Those grips are really nice but how thick are they ? The appealing aspect of the aluminum grips is that they are really thin and having small hands the gun will fit me better ??

EDIT: It doesn't matter I just bought a set, wattle wood, checkered, red finish.

I didn't see that option but maybe I will sned them an email, thanks. I also ordered a
13# and 15# spring. Total for ecerything is under $100 and the grips are some of the nicest I have ever seen.
