Considering a Benelli M4

I like the specs, build quality and feel of the M4 but that's a lot of money to spend on a shotgun, even for a guy who prefers shooting a shotgun about 95% of the time.

I'm sure I'll be happy with the M4 even at the price but two considerations are holding me up, the fact that I can buy at least 2 tempting guns for the price of the M4, and also maybe with all the recent talk of banning semiautos and military style semiautos in particular I don't want to get burned on that.

Anyway your thoughts?

Who is saying that? It's bulls**t and shouldn't be part of your calculation. Any talk of this that I know of is Obama being anti gun. Thats what started the AR craze in the US. Not relevent to us.

Sorry I don't own a M4 yet so I can't comment on it.

Edit:

The M4 is non-restricted!

There should be a sticky on this Ban bull####. From someone who truely knows what is going on in the US and what it means to us canadians. This isn't the first time someone has posted 5th hand relayed missinformation and it burns my ass.

There is no talk about bans now.

But I believe the Benelli M1 and M3 tactical models were prohibited without grandfathering in the past, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the same thing happened to the M4 by some future Liberal government.

But the more in civilian hands, the harder it is to ban something. PISS OFF A LIBERAL, BUY A BENELLI M4.

Its an incredible shotgun, i'll tell you that much.

Mine has no trouble eating low brass target shells, and mine is a 2-port barrel (for shooting full power shells)

Its got very little recoil compared to a pump gun, and it comes complete with a Picatinny scope mount (should you want a RDS or something)

Mine has been quite accurate with slugs, and it also has a threaded removable choke.

The only downside to it, is the stock is very loooooooong if you get the solid stock (about 15.5 inch LOP) The tele-stock is much better in the 13.5" LOP position, however it raises up your cheek wield so its difficult to use iron sights.

You can chop the stocks down, there are a few threads on AR15 about chopping Benelli stocks down and using a grind-to-fit recoil pad on the end... If I had a solid stock I would have chopped it, although I have the tele-stock, so I made my own cheek piece out of fibreglass cloth and epoxy. It looks and feels great :D

re

yes, buy the Benelli M4! I love the one I bought last year and will not part with it. The best shotgun I have ever owned or used....period. I am in the process of buying a Benelli M2 Tactical. Just waiting for all the extras I ordered with it to arrive and then I will I put it all together. I really like the Benelli Supernova Tactical as well.....next year?

The M4 irons line up perfectly for me with the telestock in the 13.5" position, I don't think I've ever handled a long gun where the stock fit and sightline worked better for me out of the box. However I did find it a surprisingly muzzle heavy for a short barrelled tactical setup, to me the balance feels closer to my 30" barrel "pig on a snow shovel" Ithica autoloader than my 18.5" 870.

That's the only thing I don't like about it and a big deal but not a total show stopper.

As far as ban talk goes, there were some statements made to that effect a few months ago by the usual suspects and when they were doing better in the polls, and don't think that whatever gun laws Obama manages to pass {hopefully none} won't have some sort of a political effect up here.

If you're worried about all that stuff maybe you should look at something like a pump action Mossberg 590A1 (or maybe 590A1 SPX)?

The Benelli is beautiful, and for me the only downside is the price. If you can afford it, get it.

Mine is amazing. Easy to clean, can take hundreds of rounds without fouling and is a pleasure to shoot. Accurate and almost all the recoil is absorbed. It was expensive, but one of the best gun purchases I've made. Definitely recommended!

Well I hope you guys aren't too disappointed in me but I decided to go with 2 other guns instead of the M4, I also checked out an M2 and actually liked that more than the M4 except for the cheaper look. I ended up going with a CZ 858 and will be ordering a brand new custom Ithica 37 for quite bit less money than either of them.

I took out a friend & his two teenage sons to the range. The two teenagers had never shot a gun before. After five shots with my M4 they were using it to cut cardboard IPSC targets in half shot by shot. You simply can't beat these things. Even at $2000 they are still great bang for your buck.

ok retarded question of the day, but what is the mag capacity of the M4? I can't seem to find it anywhere, and everyone I have asked has a different answer.

In Canada and other markets limited to using the "crimped" magazine, 4 rounds in 3" and 5 with 2.75" shells. The weapon was designed to hold 6 3" or 7 2.75" in the magazine orginally.

ah thank you! that makes it that much more convincing to pick one up :D

Now i've seen mag extenders advertised for it state side, what is the Canadian law then, 5 max just like semi auto center fire I'm assuming?

Yeah 5 rounds in the magazine max for semiauto centerfires, with a few exceptions but not for shotguns.
