I am looking for a spotting scope to use solely at the range. I am just a plinker, so I really don't need any serious equipment. Something that fits the criteria below would be nice:

- $200ish before taxes
- enables me to CLEARLY see .223 holes out to a MAXIMUM of 200 yards
- smooth adjustments
- isn't a cheap piece of crap that will break from normal use

I will be doing most of my shooting at 100 yards, but at some point might join one of the other clubs with a 200 yard range. I need something with good clarity because my dad will be using it half the time as we shoot together and spot eachothers shots, and his eyes aren't the greatest (wears glasses). I just don't want something with a dark crappy image that he will have to struggle to see.

Is the Bushnell Natureview 15-45x60 any good

I purchased a Tasco 20-60 x 80mm at Le Baron for $183 plus taxes less a 10% discount if you're a Le Baron member (free, I think).

I honestly had no issues with the scope at all. But the tripod broke 1st time out. I brought it back with the intention to buy something "higher-end", ended up exchanging it for a Bushnell 20-60 x 80mm...which sells for $460. The optics seem clearer, 'specially at max magnification.

Oh, and the best part? The $460 Bushnell comes without a tripod. So now I'm poorer by almost $300 more and now in the market for a half-decent mini-tripod.

Yup, I'm quite the businessman.....

Spotting Scope,
I have a Bausch & Lombe Elite 20-60 eyepiece and 77 mm objective Lens, you can easily see bullet out to 300 Meters. Paid $1199 asking $500. This is as new in the original packing and Box. Very high Quality Spotting Scope

Check out the Celestron short tripod on the web (Opticalplanet.com).....I personally think they provide a few optical companies with this product.

My only concern it maybe a little too light for your needs. (but it's very inexpensive)

good luck....

Let's just say I''m not a big Tasco fan. When the pet name for them is "trashco" it generally tells you something. Other than the few rare exceptions (usually the older models with Japanese glass), they aren't that well though off.

We just had a similar thread. My thoughts were that for the $200 range, this was the best you could get:

Camera land is in the US, so there is the exchange rate to consider. But with our dollar fairly strong it's a decent time to consider importing it. Also the Vortex have a good name and are considered a real bargain for low priced optics. Add in the fact that this is an unbadged Vortex so you save another $100. It's a Nomad 20-60x 80mm. The Nomad models generally sell for $330 in the US. It would no doubt work well for your uses.

Check down the optics page. I posted a bunch of reviews from other forums about this spotting scope.

At Costco last summer I bought a Meade 20-60x60 with aluminum case and a tripod for $55. It works quite well and doesn't feel cheaply made at all. I know it is not high end but I can clearly see a fly's pecker at 100 yards... .223 holes should be fine. Now see if they have any still around will be the catch...

Thanks guys. I have decided to check both the Bushmaster and Meade (if our Costco here has any) scopes out at Cambodian Tire and Costco. Explore the cheapest options first, and they both have no hassle returns, so if I am not satisfied I am not out anything.

I do like how the Bushmaster eyepiece swivels... that's a big plus.

I'll pop back in and post my experience once I try these out.

FWIW, Costco.ca lists the Tasco 20-60 x 80mm for $134.99.

Sure, 'cause I don't feel stoopid enuf as it is. No no, I need you to go post about how I got ripped off in the 1st place. Nice, real nice.....:p
