I'm new to reloading and I'm going to reload me first round tomorrow. The question I have is based on something someone else told me. Someone I know who has been reloading for a long time said he uses magnum large rifle primers for every center fire round he loads even if it only requires a normal large rifle primer. Is this a safe practise to ensure good ignition. If it isn't safe can someone please tell me why. I just need to know if its something safe to do or not

I've heard of it being done for reliable ignition in cold weather.....I think you'd be alright if you dropped your powder charge back to minimum and worked back up looking for pressure signs. Just one guys opinion.
Follow the recipes from reputable sources ( manuals) to the letter and keep within the suggested ranges. You are new to this and need experience before making any changes. The internet and your friends wifes cousin has lots of info but for the sake of safety stick to the manuals. The loads listed will provide a shooter with 99.99% of their needs.
Agreed, Reloading manuals won't let you blow yourself up. Mag primers can be loaded for all powders but only necessary for some. Depends what you are loading for.
Always work your way up slowly.
