HK USP 9mm Good? Bad? Ugly? Stay with Sig 226 - G17?

I tried one once a while ago. From what I remember it felt bulkier than a G17 but I could be wrong; it's been a while. The mag release is hard to get used to and definatly not something you can hit with your thumb unless you got huge hands, probably with supporting hand? Something you can probably get used to, but most pistols aren't built like that imo. But then again, they are popular and reliable, there must be something to them.
Quality/Reliability wise, I think it's up there with Sigs and Glocks, maybe even better since they're built in germany (just like the shamwow, you know germans make good products
). Having shot both, to me, my personal opinion, an USP is an expensive Glock; I'm no coolaid drinker (But I do like glocks), but that's what I think.
Step up? I don't know, but for sure there is a gun for everyone. Get your hands on it if you can and see how the controls feel in your hands.

I shoot a USP in 40. I was always reticent about getting one as I had always felt that the Glock and SIG's was too boxy for my size 6.5 hands but the USP seems to fit perfectly. I had always regarded the Hi Power as the best fit for my hand before that.
I like being able to hit the Mag release with the index finger of by strong hand, my grip stays fairly constant during reloads. The safety is easy to get to; the decocker took a bit of getting used to but is second nature now.
Both the DA & SA pulls are decent. Much better after a few hundred rounds. The DA pull is surprisingly good, feels like a nice Smith & Wesson revolver.
The one thing that sticks out is the fact that of all my pistols I have had the least FTF's and no FTE's, mechanically the thing has never let me down. Also no issues about shooting lead through the polygonal barrel with the USP.

USP is better than the Glock but has a higher bore axis. The trigger will wear in nice and smooth for the DA/SA. Its a better gun than the Glock. The sig is equally good. I prefer the all plastic mags on the HK instead of the metal/plastic mags no the SIG. I dunno though as I have 1 one of all 3.

I own one in .45. It's big, bulky and has a heavy pull on the DA side of things.
This SOB is the only gun I ever bought (used, no less) that shot to point of aim and shot wherever I pointed it, at whatever distance. It's built like a friggin' tank. I'd trade in my gf before unloading that big brute

How about staying with Sig P226?
That's what I just did an hour ago, at 7 meters.
10 shots while shooting fast... ok I took a break after the first shot to show to the guy next to me, it was right in the middle. There is 3 shots in the middle hole, pretty amazing for a newbie with only 400 rounds through his first handgun, German P226 in 9mm.
I say you don't need anything else in your life than Sig.

I have one of each. My USP is in .40 and the others are 9mm. I found that the USP is a little dated with the ergonomics and is a little blocky. In terms of reliability it had no ftf's or fte's in about 3000 rnds. I like the recoil buffer spring in it as well. I would seriously consider the P30L if you want a 9mm though because it is head and shoulders above the USP for ergonomics yet still retains all of the great features of the USP.

USPs can be converted to DAO with no gunsmithing required.True
But it depends if that can be seen as an advantage of disadvantage though. Shooting DA/SA will probably require more training to get proficient but its nice being able to have it cocked and locked.
I have a Stainless USP in 9mm and I use my middle finger too to hit the mag release. It's so easy that way.
It's a mean looking pistol IMHO, for the ergonomics you simply order a Hogue wrap around grip (about 10$).
I really enjoy mine.
I have two stainless USP 9mm's one with the LEM and a match with of course the match trigger. Both are fantastic and fun to shoot pistols. I have tried many other 9mm pistols and find the ergonomics of the USP fit me quite well. I have tried the P30L also and prefer the USP.
