I seem to be in a bit of a pickle with this situation. I have a Remington 1100 with a full choke barrel and I am not allowed to use lead shot out on the water for hunting ducks and geese. Tungston is out of this world expensive and so far what i've seen for hevi-shot it is just as bad due to the unavailability of 2 3/4" shells. Do I have any other options?

My suggestions, in order of preference:

a) buy another shotgun
b) buy another barrel
c) add a screw-in system
d) have the choke reamed out

Get it reamed out to Modified, cost will be about $80 and you will have a useful waterfowl gun and a more versatile gun for everything else.

Useful comments from all. I would add too check that the barrel is O.K for using steel shot. My old Auto5 (1932) has a barrel that is NOT recommended for use with steel shot.

#1 - IMHO the 2 3/4" sheels do not pack enough punch for the new steel shot. Get a new gun that is chambered at a minimum of 3" then you will kill more ducks and wound a lot less.
#2 - I found that the 3 1/2" shell are harder on the shoulder then really needed.
#3 - Get your barrel set up so you can use screw in chokes then you can use your gun for everything needed.

Opening the choke up to Modified is the most cost-effective option and should be a good all-around choke for most applications.

Your 1100 should be safe with steel shot as long as it isn't Full choked.

Where does that, "--out on the water--" bit come from? You are not allowed to use lead shot for ducks and geese, period.

well, i'm using an old stevens 820b with a fixed full and # 4 steel shot and have not had a problem yet, that said i would not think of using any size of shot bigger, and wouldn't do it with certain guns, such as my belgian auto 5

Correct - it applies to all waterfowl regardless of where you are shooting them.

What a stupid rule... I know so many people who have stopped hunting waterfowl because of steel shot and the number of cripples they get using it vs. lead.

You sure got all that right!
There was a slough in southern BC that had been hunted to death in past years. Swans die. Lead shot found ingested in them. Envireonmentalists pick it up. Pannick takes over and another phase of the fear monger attitude that effects everything we do, results in ban on lead shot for waterfoul.
The anti hunters got another slice of us, though, because as you say, many of us have quite wterfoul hunting, because of it.
Now, there is a strong move in BC to ban all lead weights from fishing tackle.

I said that because I was just referring to where I was gonna be hunting, I am well aware of not being able to use lead period.

Thanks for the advice everyone, at the moment getting a new shotgun is out of the question so I will be reaming out my barrel to a modified.

Epps does this and installs choke tube for around $100 I think. Having tubes would make the SG more flexible down the road...

Lead bullets are next if ya can believe that. California's already on that one. Have to say I have not enjoyed duck hunting since lead shot was banned 10 years ago:(
