How Many Spare Mags Are 'Enough'?

as posted, never enough. you need spares and replacement parts. also as stated earlier the new zombies move quicker, or beg for there lives alot. either way you need more ammo. that equals more mags.

atleast 10 "good" mags for each firearm. i take it as a shtf type deal?

Okay, to try and get this thing back on track. Most guys don't need a million bucks worth of mags. With the availability of P-mags I am quite happy with 6 to 10 P-mags...I will buy one or two here an there but there is no panic. The bottom line is most guys I run into (and I was one of them for years) have way too much gear, worry about the "look" way too much and have very little in the way of hard skills or physical fitness. How many mags do you need?. I just ran through a fairly high paced package with 3 rifle and 3 pistol mags...

Funny how that last one gets easily overlooked.

7 mags + 5-10 mags in reach in a bag in the vehicle. (Is this realistic? The number feels good to me. Maybe its just an artifact of too many years developing an aversion to the retarded 5 mags + 200 loose rounds in a butt pack mentality).

5 mags for pistol total.

That's my preference.

LOL...How many FAT guys do you see at the range with all of the useless for the normal non commando citizen "Larue" wannabe gucci stuff. I think that physical fitness and your mouth will actually get you out of most confrontation without having to result to fearing death or grievous bodily harm, AKA firearms.

OK..Back on topic ....Maybe in the event of a nuclear meltdown situation with Astro Zombies imbound I have 7 AR mags an 8 pistol mag...Shotgun stuff galore.

Get running NOW you OBESE people!!!!!

how many guys do you see with umpteen optical sights, flash lights, desert coloured hardware, ect? i can only aford a norinco m4. but the first thing i did was put a old c7 type upper on it (1st gen carrying handle & iron battle sights). your i'm sure just as gilty of being a "garatrooper". maybe some of those fat wana be's, used to be canadian airborne regiment? never judge a book by its cover until you've read a few chapters.

Yeah I was seeing the fat wannabe guy every weekend when I enjoyed paintball, fat guys with tactical gear, magpuls on their fake mags, some really big mall ninjas. Fortunately I left that #### and I am now with real guns, they are like little kids compared to me now, :D.

So H&K 30rds are good for me, because i like the steel mags, and there design is very ###y, it is a beautiful magazine.
...

Ok, so if you are jerking off to your guns then HK mags are the way to go. But if you plan on carrying the mags into some sort of armed confrontation the PMags are superior in several aspects as outlined by everyone else on this thread...

That's just my internet opinion though, I've never actually used either of them...

Also...how many of you reload .223? The fella at the gun store looked at me like I had rocks in my head for doing it.

I never priced it out because I think in terms of precision rather than economics and I like those 77gr. Matchkings from Sierra. I have so much reloading supplies and junk that I would probably be horrified to tally up how much money I wasted on that crap...so I just don't think about it!

Is factory .223 that cheap? I have never even considered shooting it - and I suppose I should one of these days just to see what it does...

I priced it out to reload the .223 and had it worked out to about 33 cents a shot, factory stuff is around 55 cents a shot around here.

Yup. Really really...

A 'skinny fat guy' who did his service in the army and now does other things. What gives me the giggles is this STRONG suspicion I have that the odds are fairly f**king good that you couldn't even dream of getting into a recognizable unit that would lend you the credibility you are looking for.

And while that point of clarification will be funny to me personally. it would still be pointless for me to hawk some "you don't know who I am" fairy tale.
  1. On the first basis, I couldn't give a s**t about making such a lame statement because I have no dog in this fight.
  2. People DON'T know who I am. No famous claims.

Nor do I try and sell anyone anything different for the pitiful gains you seem to be chasing. See the name tag? I'm nobody. Actually, looking back through this thread I note that most posters are either well known, or have been congenially inclined to qualify their history carefully .

Just not you.

Now this may come as a bit of a surprise to you, but no one has a f**king clue who you are either.

Then again, I'm not hawking the dissenting opinion here, am I dude? :D

Plus, we can't all make anonymous suggestions at how we're secretly cool or the Internet would be one big mess of Walter Mittys.

Hey... Wait a minute.

That would be kinda like your increasingly epic posts in THIS thread, wouldn't it?

Can't help but notice you have again dodged providing any semblance of credentials. Any chance we might here that particular tale, or can we just look forward to some more pro-Teutonic pose downs?

Actually Sprint, I do know who you are.

You're the guy with that M14 rail I need for my ACOG-clone. :D

Did you run your "high paced package" with three 30rnd rifle mags or with three 5rnd mags?

3 x 30 = 90 (awesome, don't need to be whoring mags)
3 x 5 = 15 (do you plan on fighting off paper cuts?)

But then again, what do I know. I've never taken any operator courses.

Fast zombies? So you just lead them a little more? :p

I've got at least 4 magazines for all my guns, and for the competition guns at least 12 magazines. Anytime I see a decent deal on a magazine I pick a few up. You just can't have enough magazines. When I'm actually at the range I usually take 5-6 mags with me to practise mag changes and so I don't have to spend time reloading. If only we had normal capacity magazines I'd probably just take 2 or 3 with me.

There was a guy at the range a few months ago with an AR-15 done to the 9s. It looked awesome, but man was it ever heavy. I don't think I've ever seen quite that much crap slung off of a rifle. Wasn't quite sure what the point of having the cammo, flashlight, tons of tac rails, scopes, lasers, foregrips, collapsing stocks, etc etc on the gun, but it did look very tacticool.

You kinda missed my point and I figure you are being contrary just for the heck of it, even if we didn't have a 5 round limit this discussion would be the same...people always whore the wrong things or try and buy themselves a game. Even on LEO courses guys show up with a ton of mags and that's cool. My point was that I did not and didn't suffer for it. Maurader, your point on a light gun is a very real real one, it makes training a whole lot easier when you're not fighting your kit.

You didn't suffer with fewer mags but you would have if one or more had failed. Owing many and carrying many aren't synonymous with one another. The other reason for hoarding is due to our political and economic climates. Good gear is hard to find so when its available you stock up.
