Just a very simple question:

Is there any way to soften a 10/22 magazine without sacrificing proper feeding?

Should I wait a bit since it's new and it will soften by itself?

I'm kinda new with 10/22s (my first one, got it from Frontier Taxidermy and was a good deal for a new firearm:D ) and trying to learn the basics of it.....

Thanks in advance!

It's not a weapon it's a firearm unless you intend to use it in an offensive manner.

Get use to the 10/22, enjoy it, shoot it, and leave the magazine alone.

i pushed the spring down most the way, and used a quick spray of G96. Then, charged the mag for a week with about 20 rounds. it worked.

If the mags are really stiff, you could load them up and leave them for a week or 2. That should break in the springs nicely.

Congrats on the new 10/22....... The first of many I assure you! :D

If you were to leave the bullets in for a long period of time would it ruin the mag?

Take the first 25 rounds, put them in plastic bag with a few drops of oil, and roll them around. This will make the mags feed well. The plastic is what cause the binding. onnce you have accumulated alittle lead in them they work great. I prefer the butler creek mags

My dad, once left a stock 10/22 mag loaded for 3 years..... He thought he had lost the darn thing when out for gophers. He found it when he was cleaning out the car to trade it in.......

That was 18 yrs ago..... I still have the mag, and it still works! It is a little loose, but it still feeds just fine.

So I don't think loading a mag and leaving it will do any REAL harm...... But 3 years is a long time!

Cheers!

my understanding is that springs are rated in cycles, not time.

loading a mag, and leaving it for 10 minutes, or 10 years, then unloading consitutes one cycling of the spring.

furthermore, the only way to notably shorten the life of a quality spring is to go beyond the normal travel of the spring.

that being said, if i had the choice, i would not leave them compressed more than nessecary.

as for factory 10/22 mags, you could take it apart and re-assemble it with less tension.
