Hey,

I been asked by a co worker to help butcher her pig next month. She wants me to shoot it. I of course assume braining the animal is best. I maybe wrong though.

My firearm options are 270 180 grain, 12 gauge 3 inch slug, 22 win mag 40 grain or a 7.62x39 (cz 858)...I sold all my pistols to go to school (plus it would be illegal..lol)

So my 3 questions are these...where should I shot the animal ( I mean on its body....) what method should I use(gun, knife or other alternative)? If a gun...what calibre?

I know for a fact 22 mag will kill nearly all big game...however she wants the fastest route.....I think the cleanest is best lol

Use the CZ.
One shot behind the ear into the cranial cavity.
Quick and instant death.
Make sure to shoot it close to where you going to butcher it. You don't want to drag a dead pig carcass any great distance.

look up humane slaughter, there was a handy diagram going around that showed where to place the bullet for various livestock, I would say between the eyes at super close range with the .22 mag would be best.

We killed them in the barn with a .22 Lr in the head. Look up the exact angle find your slaughter place. Drop some feed in front of them. They will go to town on it and shot em while they are busy

thank you someone with experience is what i wanted....See my only concern is that pigs are hard to kill maybe and did not want adrenaline running through its system if not fully dead...When I hunt I ensure i pick the fastes way to death without running the animal whatsoever

When I saw it done as a kid, my uncle just placed the muzzle right on the side of the pigs skull and fired (perhaps it was behind the ear). The pig just falls on its side and blood squirts out. 22 rimfire.

All we ever used on farm was .22 LR. For cows and pigs.

Make sure you bleed the animal of course immediately afterwards.

Have you make plans on how to scrape the hide???

That will require a dunking in HOT water or Propane tiger torch(easiest).

Don't forget to take out the tenderloins and eat them up.....you don't want to freeze those.

we used a .22 years ago....up close and personal.
Of course, like most hunters, the story told now is "from 700 yards away and the pig was running downhill in the dark rain...with a .22." :)

i worked at a small slaughterhouse where everything was done by hand. we used a bolt gun for pigs, (pretty well the same as .22lr just more safe) .22lr on cows, and a hammer for goats, sheep etc.

we did emu's every once in a while and had what looked like a giant alligator clip. all ya had to do was put it around the emus neck then plug it it

dispatch a pig

sharp knife cut its neck just below the jaw bone pig doesnt know hes dead unless you are good with the 22 you place the bullet wrong you have a wounded animal good luck

Choke it out..........jk

As said before, Dump some food on the ground and while Mr Wiggly is eating, shoot him in the brain with a .22 or the 7.62 x39. I actually prefer something bigger than a .22 for pigs and cows, especially if you are shooting them between the eyes. (I prefer 45ACP). 22 sure will kill like hell, though.:)
