Mr Ethical, Have or would you?

I wouldn't imagine it would raise any additional ethical questions than hunting bears with hounds or hunting mountain lions with hounds. In the latter case, you want the lion up a tree to dispatch it quickly. Guy I know in the US typically runs with his hounds and carries a .44 mag revolver. His hunting partner and brother runs a Marlin Guide Gun.

If you want to extrapolate further, having a bear treed, or totally pre-occupied with a bait barrel really isn't that different.

Questions of ethics, when it comes to hunting can often be a very slippery slope. Where do you draw the line and who draws it? Kinda' like the hot-button issue of "long-range hunting."

For instance, I'm not sure about the rest of Canada, but Newfoundland regulations also permit licensed trappers (I am one) to legally harvest Black bears using a power leg hold snare, followed by the delivery of a coup de grace via rifle/shotgun. I haven't used the latter method, but I won't condemn others for doing so, as it is 100% legal to do so.

However, I would be a little hesitant to use one, as the snare does not discern boar from sow, a spw potentially with cub(s). However, a single license permits two bears to be harvested, so if you did catch a sow with a cub, you'd have to take both, as it would be next to impossible to safely release her.

I guess, when it comes down to it, everyone has to draw their own line!:)
 
I've never done it as the only treed bears I have seen were small ones, but I dont' know why it would be considered unethical?


What is the difference between shooting it in a tree to shooting it under the tree?
 
Maybe you should re ask your question like,is it
ethical or unethical for a bear to attack/eat a
human that is treed.:eek:

well, #1... I wouldn't find it fair chase to shoot a bear out of a tree,
especially if I treed him..

#2... All bears I have treed have been scared ####less and completely
paniced,..I won't hunt an animal like that, with no escape.

#3... if a bear trees, in my book, he's got safety,

#4... It wouldn't sit well on my conscience, ultimately taking away
from the experience and possibly future hunts
 
Bears that get scared and climb trees from a human approaching are most likely younger, smaller bears. I have never had a giant boar run up a tree to escape me. So I could see not wanting to shoot a frightened young bear, but if I was out hunting and saw a giant boar that just happened to be up in a tree having a nice time, I don't see the difference between that and finding him on the ground.

That's why I said especially if I treed him.. I have less issue happening uponn a big bruin is up in a tree to eonjoy himself or get at a hive,.. but if I stalk a bear,... and he sees me or scemts me and trees, then I won't shoot him..
 
what dif wouold it make if he is treed or got his head in a pail of food .if you are after a bear and you tree it shoot it if you bait for it and it comes in and stikes his head in a barrel shoot it DUTCH
