Found an old box with 25 rounds of a revolver ammo headstamped 32 S&W U (?) C Co.
That U has a strange shape; could it be a faulty D stamp? all of the cartridges heads are identically stamped.
Any historical data?

Yes, it is a D which is has been chipped. I guess they couldn't be bother to regrind it. In those days it was all manual.

I guess it passed inspection, but I'd bet the heading die was changed after the run.

"For sale, collector's grade ammo. Hints of slight pitting barely visible"

:D

To give, Lou, to give! :)
BTW, it's already packaged for shipping to a member. :p
Speaking about that funny stamping, if it was a "U" it could be an ancient Remington trademark stamp but I'm not sure.
If it was a "D", could it be "Dominion"? In that case, such a faulty run could add interest for a collector, I guess.

Dominion Cartridge Co.

Unfortunately, cartridges are not like stamps and a faulty marking does not bring a bigger price.
