Please elaborate. I am getting it for a "buddy price". Where could I get a spare striker? Is it not covered under a warranty?

That's the point. Whether it is covered under warranty or not is immaterial when the warranty station in Canada doesn't have any replacement strikers to fix your broken pistol and, despite S&W having said - three times - that they'd mail a replacement striker, six weeks later it still hasn't arrived.
Some guys will tell you not to worry, that you probably won't break a striker anyway and even if you do you can get a replacement from S&W. Oh really?

Wendall the sky isn't falling. I have over 3,000 rds through mine and the striker has yet to break. The first guns made had problems with a bad batch of strikers but striker failure is rare now in these guns, certainly nor more that any other striker fired gun. You had/have a bad experience. A lot haven't.

What's your rationale for thinking that's a big deal? I'm wondering how likely you are to be on the ground in a life and death grappling duel meanwhile fighting for control of your pistol (which you have with you?) meanwhile there's also a fight to unload the magazine and meanwhile it is somehow dropped out of the pistol meanwhile you get a clear shot and meanwhile you have the mindset and training, and decide to take the shot and so you do and oh oh...you have a mag safety and you have to end up using your pistol as a hammer instead...yeah, no, I wouldn't worry about that mag safety detail. No offence, but I don't think you have to worry about that scenario Its not just that scenario, its also an extremely annoying extra step when finishing a course of fire, IMO anyways.

If I'm the SO or MD, I don't care. It's not called a safety, (mag disconnect), so it's not included in the whole "can't disable safety devices" thing. KFS convinced me of that one, so take it up with him! LOL
EDIT: But, as you say, it IS extremely annoying; especially if you don't have any extra mag's to keep empty for it.
The magazine disconnect is somewhat annoying, and there is ongoing argument as to whether disabling it is IDPA legal, since S&W makes the M&P both with and without it. From what I'm told a drop-in factory part is all that's required to make the gun work without a magazine inserted. At most I would expect that changing it out would move you from SSP to ESP if your gun was originally manufactured with the disconnect installed. I'd like to see an official IDPA ruling so I could know for sure.
