I'm aware of the how to stuff available to guide a job but I would like a consensus as to whether it should be left to the pros or not.

Therefore would those who have done it themselves post with their comments.

As for the pro jobs, I'm only aware of the man in California who is doing them. Are there others in USA or Canada?

Many thanks

Take your time and do it.

The best thing you can do to the SKS is having the trigger reworked. I have made several other posts on this. I am not a machinist or a gunsmith but have done several trigger jobs for my own personal SKS's based on the sailor kurt videos as well as the AGI SKS Trigger Job Video. Get yourself a new sear and disconnector to perform the trigger work on so if you make a mistake you can put your original sear back in and you are back to where you started. All I suggest is watching the videos as many time as it takes until you fully understand what is happening.

Do it yourself means different things to different folks. Guns are pretty simple machines. If you can take apart an engine and put it back together then you probably have the mechanical skill necessary to disassemble the far more simpler sks trigger mechanism, and polish the engagement surfaces reassemble and it should function as intended.

From my memory. I do not have an sks anymore (had three all with ruined triggers , :)) It was a matter of removing a retaining pin. Sliding out the sear. Polishing the rails that the sear rides along. Polishing the engagement surface where the sear trips the hammer. Clean with some brake fluid, to remove all the polishing compound. Lubricate with clp or gun oil. Reassemble exactly the opposite way that they came out.

This will give a smooth trigger pull. It will not lighten it as you are keeping the stock springs. But smooth, and heavy is better than rough and heavy.
Good luck.

SKS Trigger job in Canada, Bits of Pieces?

Bits of Pieces will do it for you, and it's 'safe', I didn't get mine done there, but I heard they do really good work. ;) IBTL:D

I've tried for 5 days to get a message to B of P in Delta, B.C. and find them extremely hard to contact. First of all, no phone calls, just Fax. I've sent two unanswered email messages.

I want to know, how much for the job includeing return postage.

I finally got a phone call from them this afternoon and the cost is $85, postage and GST probably added. No information on time required.

There are multiple videos and descriptions on how to do this available through a Google search on "SKS Trigger". I'm doing my own - $85 is steep (for a $200 gun!) and I'm not sending trigger parts to/from the US.

This guy in the US does excellent work: ww.kivaari.com (add the extra w)

before you send any SKS trigger to the US , please read legalese section first. sending/exporting SKS parts into the US is complicated, various US agencies control them .
