Savage MKIIF insane accuracy!

I remember that thread............the rifle/scope pics are still MIA......:ninja:...........:p

cyclone; Sorry pardner, I have not posted pics of my 40X. I will try to get them up and posted soon. I do have a few of my latest zinger, a Suhl 150, which, believe it or not, will outshoot that 40X by a hair over the long haul. However, it also has a tuner on it. Between the 40X and the Suhl, they shot so well that I sold my Anschutz M54Match rifle. Regards, Eagleye.

i have the exact same gun as OP. Any hints on sighting in the iron sights? i think mine were off from the factory.

Use a drift, preferably brass, to punch the rear sight in the direction (left or right)you want the Point of Impact to move.

To raise or lower the POI, adjust the elevator under the rear sight blade back and forth, to raise or lower the blade. Move the blade in the direction you want to move your POI.

I suggest you just mount a rimfire scope to get the most accuracy (and fun) out of your MkIIF.:)

anybody bought the ''Frontier'' package which includes a scope?

yep. advertised as coming with an NC star 3-9x40 but came with a bushnell 3-9x32, not sure wich would've been better but the bushnell seems to work. shot it today, absolutely love the gun. great service at frontier too.

Don't mean to semi hi-jack this post, but do any of you Savage enthusiasts know if you can swap out the standard MKII barrel for the bull barrel?
If so, how does one get one from Savage?
they don't accept emails anymore!
Thanks for any info guys,
T.

From what I have read and heard, barrels cannot be exported from the USA.

If you have the regular MKII with tapered barrel, how about selling that rifle and buying another rifle with a bull barrel.

The Savage factory is here in Canada. So exportation should not be a problem.

I am sure it could be done, but I would reccomend a g-smith do the work.....

I am sure it would be a bunch cheaper to just buy a new gun & sell your current one.

If you still want to proceed with the swap, I would go into your local firearms peddler/g-smith 's shop and inquire if they can get one for you. I know that my local smith can and does get parts and barrels directly from savage from time to time..... Some times the wait is the killer, average wait time is 6 to 8 weeks.

If that is not an option either, you could call Savage (you say they are not answering emails any more??). I needed an extractor and I just called them and a week later I had my new extractor.

Cheers!

To be honest I have never looked into it. I don't even know what it would take to swap a barrel on a Savage rimfire.....

I would imagine that all you really need is a tool that will unscrew the barrel from the action with out buggering the finish on the barrel. As far as the stock goes.... All you have to do is enlarge the barrel channel and it should drop right in.

I bought mine a year and a half ago, and I'm impressed at its accuracy. It's the standard left-hand one.

I started shooting it with american eagle, and found it was good enough that the limiting factor was the sights.

So I went to town and had a Leupold 2-7x28 put on it. That scope is awesome. It's really bright and clear, like all of their stuff that I have.

Then I started using Federal Gold medal, and it really began to shine. It's one of my most accurate guns. I never measured the groups, but they're always one ragged hole.

Someone told me that the ideal primer for getting into 1000yd shooting is to shoot pop cans at 200 with a .22. This rifle is great for that, it's always a great time lobbing rounds out there with my buddy, he even made a little 3" gong for it.

My other favourite game is to chase a 12ga hull around the gravel pit with it. I can do that all day and never get bored. Especially when the shell gets further away or ends up half-hidden behind something, then you can really get your head wrapped around the challenge.
