I was awesome enough to strip the threads on the receiver of my 10/22. I did this a while ago and used loc-tite to secure it, however that doesn't do the trick anymore.

So I can either take the scope rail and epoxy it onto the receiver or find those magical 8-40 screws and tap that will apparently fix my problem.

Has anyone else had this issue and managed to resolve it? Cause as for now my target shooting days are pretty much over.

Never had the problem. Drill and tap to next size up will preserve the value of the rifle and solve your problem. Should be easy as your pilot holes are already done for you.

Brownells sells an oversized -48 tap (and matching screws) that should recut stripped 6-48 threads. Easy fix. This would be my first choice. Opening the holes up to 8-40 would be another option. This requires the holes in the base to be opened as well. Brownells can supply the drill, tap and correct screws.

I would try the oversized -48 repair first. Then again, I have the tap and screws on hand. 8-40 is certainly an option. I have repaired customers' rifles both ways.

I have read that people have used the more common 8-32 for threading their receiver. I have this tap already and just wondering the pro's and con's of doing it with 8 less threads per inch.
