So your buying a .357 magnum

Used 686 or GP100 because Hogue grips bite the big one. Or if you can find the old style wood S&W or wood/rubber Ruger grips used somewhere. :)

I got both and prefer shooting the Ruger over the S&W. Nicer balance, nicer feel and nicer trigger although the S&W groups a bit better. My S&W was a new 20 Y.O. gun so came with wood (the Hogue I bought to try is somewhere in the junk drawer). The Ruger I had to track down a set of older grips.

Had both a GP-100 6" and a 686 6". Kind of a tossup.....the Smith was smoother but the GP was more accurate. Decided I don't like the balance of the full underlug guns, so now have a really sweet Model 19 6". I don't shoot a lot of full-house .357 anymore, but if I did and wanted a stronger gun, I'd be looking to get a 5" Model 27.

My first handgun was a 6" 686 that I still own. I sold a S&W Model 27 and 28. They were very well built and accurate. I have some regrets selling them but the money was used to buy another firearm that I had wanted for a while so I'm getting over it. A relative owns the PC 5" 8 shot 627 and that's one nice revolver!!! The Scandium framed TRR8 327 perked my interest a few months ago but I'm not sure I like the idea of the 2 piece, sleeved barrel but, with that said, there have been nothing but positive comments and reports about the TRR8/R8 so I might be out to lunch....

For a revolver, SMITH&WESSON is a must :)

Dont worry about different frame sizes N, L, bla bla....grab yourself a NIB stainless steel Smith & Wesson 686 .357 Magnum

The most beautiful .357 Mag on the planet, you'll LOVE it :)

The old Dan Wesson model 15's were amongst the most accurate revolvers I've ever shot...........Harold

S&W 27 or 28....love that classic look. I have a 686 and would never get rid of it, but those old richly blued, recessed cylinder revolvers are beautiful

Dan Wesson Model 15 is my favourite. Accurate, solid and reliable.
And, with four different barrels and a couple or three sets of grips, it's like grown-up LEGO; a new toy every day!

My favorite right now is my GP-100, blued with a 6 inch barrel. What I love so much is it is and older one without the full lug under the barrel. Points better and has a little retro style to it.

To me, there is only one .357 that any Canadian should be considering buying new (used is another story) and that is the Ruger GP 100 with a 4.2" barrel. Ruger has responded to the changing market needs and is currently the only manufacturer offering the shortest legal length revolvers on the market. That alone deserves our money. And to boot, the GP100 is a very decent revolver for the money.

If Ruger sells enough of these, then maybe the other manufacturers will take notice and stretch their 4" guns out to 4.2 and increase their market share.

Just my 2 cents...

If only this 106 mm barrelled GP100 was available last year when I bought my 6 incher:(
