Hunt with two guns?

For deer season this year I was hoping to hunt some rabbits along the way. I've try searching the forum with word combinations for this but nothing so far....

I know that I can hunt small game with my pellet pistol (sub 500fps). My question is can I carry the muzzleloader and pellet pistol (no mag) at the same time?

Big game, including deer, may only be hunted with a
firearm (this includes bows). When hunting deer you may
use or carry a firearm of the type permitted for hunting deer at
that time in that WMU. For example, when hunting deer during
a bows-only season, you may use or carry only bow hunting
equipment. You may not carry a rifle or shotgun for hunting
other species.

the under 500 fps pellet pistol is not considered
a firearm in the legal sence, so it can be used for small game
like grouse in Ont.
Your province may very.
There was a story/artical in Ont Out of Doors a couple of years back
on this subject.
Unless this has recently changed, it is still done by many people
i know when hunting deer and moose in Ont.
MNR has an imfo line published in thier regulations guide you can call
to get specific answers to any questions you may have.
 
It was my understanding that that meant you couldn't carry a .30-30 while bowhunting for deer if black bear was open aswell(for example). I thought it only applied to big game. So you're saying I can't carry a .22 w/ subsonics aswell as my deer rifle when hunting deer in the rifle season?

That's right, were not allowed last season either.
 
I've been moose hunting with a .303 and carrying a .12ga on my back empty. I came across a pair of COs, spoke with them (licence / tag etc) and they never said a word. They didn't even want to see the shot that I was using. Just as long as one was unloaded.

If I was coyote hunting with a .243 during bow season, it wouldn't be a problem either because I'm not deer hunting, I'm coyote hunting. It's all about intention I believe. If you've got a grunt tube around your neck with the .243...you're pouched.

No offense was meant about requesting the source. Hunters have to keep in mind that the reg summary is just that....a summary. It's not the Act or Regulation itself.
I've got time tonight, I'll look it up some more.
 
Still no luck. I think that I'm going to give the local MNR office a call. Or just try my luck. I'm pretty sure that I'm right. Just as long as one is unloaded....
 
Rifle hunting? Get a Hammond Game Getter. Way easier and lighter than carrying a second gun.

I have one in .308 Winchester. Using a green power load (which Brian says is hotter than I need) it shoots about 1 1/2 inches below the cross hairs at ranges I will shoot at grouse.

They are available for pretty much any caliber you can think of, and he will make one that will fit, if you have a caliber that he has not made before.

A Bargain, for $40!

A box of Remington power nailer loads is about $9, a 5 pound box of buckshot balls is about $30 (LOTS!). For the larger calibers, cast or swaged round balls are available, or get a mold and cast some.

And it gets around the silliness that is the Ontario regulations.

you may only use or carry (on your person, in a vehicle or
boat) a firearm of the type permitted for deer or moose, as
the case may be, at that time in that WMU.
