Privi Partisan, 125 Grain, soft point, 4 shots, benched, windage- holding ~4" to the right 100 yards.

I'll get a pic later but the front sight trunnion is almost all the way over to the left to get them vaguely on for windage at 100 yards, this is a new gun, and the front sight assembly does not look wonky (it looks plumb, square level, etc)

I'm no expert but I don't think your sight should look like that.

Nice groups by the way. I'm using a red dot but think I could get soooo much better with optics. I envy guys that can shoot well with irons.

Thanks dude, I guess I can thank the AMA smallbore league circa 1980, all my officer's and nco's for that in the forces, the flyer in the first group is a combination of me and maybe the ammo, the rifle for some reason seems to like the M-43, the opposite of my Russian SKS, Once I get this sorted out, I would like to try a Leupold Scout scope with it and the NEA rail.

I'm getting similar results out of my 858-2.

I was holding my cell phone sideways when I snapped the following two photos of the targets so the up direction is to the left of the image. (ie. the images should be oriented 90 degrees to the right.) Just tilt your head to the left and you'll get the correct orientation.

The holes with the circular pen marks around them are from my first group of the day.
The holes with the square pen marks are from my second group of the day.

The holes in the final target image that do not have any pen marks around them are the final group.

Each of the squares is supposed to measure 1 inch by 1inch, so I'm very happy with my final group being 3MOA considering the open sites, the surplus ammo(bought at Lever Arms), and the bench support being a couple of blocks of wood and a sand bag.

Unfortunately, target changes at the PoCo range are few and far between, so it took quite some time to run through those 15 shots. But, while waiting for target changes, I played with the 858 on my 50yard paper along with my Shadow at the 25yard paper.

Anyway, this was my first time really putting my 858 to the test, and I've very happy with the outcome. With my other rifles running open sites, I've never done any better than I did today.

Here's an image of the open sites...

Mine came like that end there was not enough windage left to zero. I drifted out the pins and wacked the sight over a bit and pinned it in place. That brought it over a bit, but final zeroing was accomplished by wacking the sight housing against a wooden bench. Once zeroed I JB welded the housing to the barrel.

This is a 300 yard grouping with chec surplus. I think I have it zeroed.:)

Good groups, 3 moa with open sights is about the best I can do - unless I am shooting with peep/diopter sights then with my target rifle 1 moa is possible on a good day if I stick to 5 rounds. The front sight trunnion on my SKS is almost perfectly centered, as are all the other sights on my other rifles that are sighted in, so this bothers me, I took some machining training some time ago and concern for things like this has stuck with me from that. - I guess that means I'm probably wrapped too tight for New Orleans! :p

grox6, were you using 2 different types of ammunition?

jasonburnsdundee as you can see from the first group I am not zeroed yet and I just checked yep the front sight is hard up against the left side of the hole for it in the front sight base

Good shooting, my sights are the same, front is canted to the left.

grox please change the settings on your cellphone, those pics lag up the thread lol

I'll have you know this lousy picture was a bastard to get all here by meself with my camera phone. . . :p I got the bright idea of sighting along the operating rod housing to see if it was indeed plumb or not, I am guessing that it's not, the focus sucks because I needed 5 or 6 hands and had only one to take this picture - looks like the barrel is not the issue, just the darned fing front sight hood - much easier to fix imo - well that's a little relief.

Thanks for helping me nail down the problem, I really like this rifle though, very nice little piece! :)

Here's how she looks - I emailed Wolverine, because I'm not sure I will get assistance from the dealer.

That's how mine looks, and I can hit the gong at 200y, with the M43 surp (usually ). Haven't tried any soft point yet. I haven't adjusted the sight at all. It seems to be zeroed a lot better at the 200y setting, than at the 100y one. But despite looking ####-eyed, the bullets are going reasonably where I want them. Any problems with accuracy, are my issues with inexperience on the irons .

Nope, it was all the same ammo. I bought the ammo at a local shop here in Vancouver and the wooden cases have white stickers labeled with:

4C2 / Y 39 /S /03
CZ/ KERBEROS - IMET 3045

But I have no idea what factory produced the stuff or what brand the ammo is. There is other black stenciled writing under the white stickers on the wooden cases, but I can't make out what it says.

Oops, sorry about that. I didn't realize the images were so massive until I reviewed back through this thread. They didn't look so big when I was checking them out on my cellphone;-)

When comparing the 2 groups, considering that I held off for the 2nd one, there really is not that much of a difference in the windage (which is not yet on for either load). Curt I had to hold maybe 8 -10 inches to the right to get hits on the gong at 200 yards - it's not zeroed by any means. I heard somewhere that the M43 (fmj corrosive ammo) was made by (edit) S&B.

The CZ 858 rifle is a military rifle and she designed so that the front sight post is adjusted to zero the rifle, we can’t change that. If when zeroed the front sight blade is fully right or left this will be deemed acceptable. If the rifle can not be zeroed by adjusting the front sight simply arrange to return her to us for a replacement rifle. Shipping costs are not covered under warranty. We will not replace rifles after anyone has attempted to re-locate the front sight base by any means. Any question on this or any other warranty issue please e-mail: John@wolverinesupplies.com
