Norinco M4 service life - manual says 6000rds!?

Alright, I just picked up my M4. Gotta say the finish on this one is way more impressive when I saw another one a few months ago. I'm looking through the manual and it said that the service life is 6000rds! What does that really mean? I'm expecting ten's of thousands of rounds before replacing some small parts.

Could be a typo or maybe it's a ploy to have you buy another one before 6K rounds. :p

What does the warranty say? 6K rounds, or 6 months ... whichever comes first? :D :D

But it does have a nice finish. :)

Alright, here it is a close up. Mind you, my camera is bringing out the worse of everything. BTW, what looks like rust is just flash reacting to the oil.

I don't think the finish looks any different from others have posted here.

The one I saw a few months ago was complete crap. Looked like someone just spray painted and let the paint run for a bit.

As long as this thing shoots good and doesn't blow me up. I'll be a happy camper. I'll have to pay at least $500 more for something better and I thought about it long and hard, but I ended up with Norc. LOL!

Roadkill: Yeah, 6000rds sounds weird. Maybe they mean 60,000rds. :) I'm been reading so much about the Norc M4 here but no one ever commented about the service life according to the manual. I guess I'll toss it in the garage after 6k rds.
 
I'd like to see some ####er step up and shoot 6k through one and then tell us if it blows up in his hands............. :D

Wait.. I think I know a candidate for that experiment............ ;)

One of the guys on our last SR shoot had one. He had fewer issues than some folks that had "brand name" AR's..

Now, not sure if that was ammo related or what have you.. But... just sayin......
 
6,000 is more or less he expected barrel life of the average match rifle barrel. I know of some competitors who replace at 5,000 whether the barrels shot out or not!

If someone was to give me 6,000rds I will try to wear mine out, currently at around 500 and not one jam. 6,000rd is about $3300

My thoughts exactly.

The way I look at it, you can buy a stock Armalite, Colt, or Bushmaster (and that's it) or you can buy a Norinco and 800-1000 rounds of ammo.

I've had mine for 6 months and put about 800 rounds through mine, so I'm quite satisfied.

One thing to watch out for though, is the cleaning rods they give you must be made out of the same steel as the rest of the gun, because when I used it to clean the barrel, it scraped the chamber pretty good (don't use it).
 
Were you pushing or pulling on the cleaning rod? Sectional cleaning rods, no mater what they are made of, should never be used as a push rod, only ever a pull rod. They flex at the joints and at the very least leave little bits of themselves behind and at the most will ruin a barrel. Barrel steel is not very hard actually.

Actually,

6K is not too far off for a carbine.

Bolt breakage with a carbine (their gas system is not as "soft" as that of a full length rifle) will happen. Locking lugs crack and break off.

For a full length rifle, you'll start to see it around the 10-15K mark.

I've got AR's with that many rounds, and I keep an eye on them carefully.

I have replaced many parts on AR's.

Triggers that have had the sear face crack.

Bolts with broken lugs.

Firing pins with little dimples in the end.

Hammer pin (snapped in 2 right in the middle!)

Those are some of the things you'll see with higher round-count rifles.
