Does anyone know where I can find a chamber adaptor (or insert) for converting the M1 Garand to shoot .308Win ?

Thanks!!!

I have some for collecting. I think your best bet would be to get a 308 winch barrel and a 308 clip insert.

from my knowledge, they are available from the usa, ........they were designed in the vietnam era to convert garands .........i believe it was a navy project .............it had some success but the addapters have a nasty habit of coming loose and flying away with an empty brass, at the most unhelpful moments........ meaning the next 308 rounds gets to go off with no adapter in a now back to 30-06 size chamber .....

not a common occurance but happened enough the military scrapped the idea .....

not really a good idea.

According to the Kuhnhausen manual, FN developed the proper method for conversion, the chamber inserts were left 'short chambered' then the barrels were heated & the inserts chilled, leaving an interference fit, then the 'new' .308 chambers were finish chambered. It's going to leave freebore, which might not be really conducive to good accuracy. I have never heard of anyone using them or seen any, but I have been made to understand (at least through the Kuhnhausen manual that the commercially made ones vary quite a bit in dimensions.

Save your money. They have a nasty tendency to come out upon extraction.
"...were designed in the Vietnam era to..." Designed during the mid 50's by the U.S.N. to try and save money.

Hi can!4,

Thank you for your reply; it is very helpful. You mentioned that you have a few of these devices for collecting. I am sorry for being a bit forward, would you consider selling one of these adaptors?

Thanks,
