Duck Huntin in Alberta

Heyo, just wondering if I can get some online advice and mentoring in regards to duck huntin in southern AB. I am a mountain WMU deer hunter normally and have never been duckin before, so not sure how it all works.

If anyone could provide any help and advice, it would be appreciated! Thanks.

Never hunted them in real southern Alberta, bu the best advice I can give you is to drive around and ask permission from farners where you see ducks at waterholes - sneaking up on them is great fun, take a fishing roid and waders with you.....

What he said, except mostly the ponds are shallow sloughs, and no fish. Ducks come to decoys really well, and they don't have to be fancy. Some rough shapes out of styrofoam painted brown work just fine.
If you're not seeing any good sized mallards, etc on the ponds or small lakes, you'll find them on the irrigation canals. Water will be turned off soon, making many small ponds in them. Then it's spot'n ambush.
I'd suggest picking up one of those small cheapo 1 man dingy's that come with the 3' paddles; great for retreiving, and much more fun than flipping a coin to see who wades out in their skivvies. (1' of water, 3' of mud)

The fishing rod would be to retreive the ducks instead of wading or dragging a dighny around, not for fishing!

Some good advice! That's why I ask. As soon as Suka mentioned skivvies, I immediately envisioned myself doing that and wondering why I didn't think of it before....

I have always imagined having my loyal retriever with me like on the old Remington shotgun posters.....but then I would have to have a retriever.

So the fishin rod ain't for fishin more than its for fishin the birds out of the water, waders or the like...
