I was talking to a guy this morning about how I would love to go on a grizzly hunt one day and he asked me why and what I planned on doing with the meat? I usually have answers to questions like this if it's deer or moose. Such as I love the outdoors and the thrill of the hunt and instead of buying beef/lamb/pork at the grocery store I would freeze and eat all the meat. Do most people just throw out the grizzly meat or eat it? Throwing out the meat is not a good response especially to an anti. Is there any way to "justify" a grizzly hunt?

In my experience, most anti-bear-hunters have a hard time responding to the following bit of logic:

a) hunters tend to target large, mature grizzly boars

b) the number one cause of grizzly cub mortality is cannibalism by large, mature grizzly boars

c) selectively harvesting large, mature grizzly boars from a healthy population tends to have the effect of increasing cub survival rates and causing an overall increase in that population

Good luck and have fun with it :)

All that and you can eat the grizzly if you choose. I'd avoid meat from fall grizzlies eating salmon carcasses, though:)

The MALE is called a boar and the FEMALE a sow because hundreds of years ago, someone decided to name them that. It has nothing to do with relations between species.

Following that logic, elephants, cattle, whales, elk, caribou and moose are all related too.

BTW, boys and girls go to school, because they are human youth.

If you need justification beyond "I freakin want to", then use everthing you can. Many hunters do get lots of mileage out of a bear. Myself; everything fit for human consumption gets eaten, the bones are hung up in my front yard for the birds and squirrels to feed off of for weeks, the skull is taken in for research purposes, and the hides are tanned and used as well.

I think your wrong........
Why is the boy bear called a boar and the girl called a sow just like pigs?

They are both omnivores as well........

Bears have no close relatives but originate from a line that also includes the Canidae family which includes domestic dogs. Their closest relatives today - and that is still a stretch - are the Pinnipeds, the fin-footed mammals including the walrus, eared seals, including sea lions and fur seal, and earless seals.

Here's why I hunt them... :D
