RCMP Phone interview

Not at all. I'm glad you got your RPAL...congrats.

Calling the exercise "not painful" waa the comment the got me.

It is very painful, wasteful and unnecessary.

No, painful is the annual exercise I go through with my groinicologist. But, as with the RPAL questioning, it's a requirement so I grin (grunt ??) and smile. :p
Cheers.

Call rom RCMP/CFO

No call from them at all. did the old crse when it was only 2 days for all.
Hunter Ed, Res and Non-Res.

They called my 2 references now I just received a letter from the RCMP saying that they require more info and to call them.

RPAL application mailed August 8, arrived in the mail yesterday. :D
Can't really complain too much on the time frame.
References and myself were called, they never called the wife.

It took about 2 months from application to receipt of RPAL. They called me first and then they called both of my references. They didn't get ahold of one of my references which caused a delay of 2 weeks. Overall a smooth process and I appreciate that you have to take the courses and do an application were they ask all those questions. Personally I don't want crazy people being able to own firearms or have no education about it. Can't really compare it with buying real estate. Overall a good experience. Once you have your license you just walk in an out of the dealer with your new firearm in 10 minutes. I couldn't believe it. Great.

When the guy from the RCMP called me for the phone interview, he kept asking me the same dumb questions over and over again. I just kept answering 'no' to all of his silly questions and I got my PAL no problem.

Yea, but crazy people still get guns and complete morons can pass the safety course.

This interview is wasteful and useless. Gun ownership is a right that shouldn't be impaired by courses and interviews.

Applied in early July, received it end of August and all 3 calls were made. I see and understand both sides of the issue and I would rather see Canada err on the side of caution. If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear. The last thing we need is loonies obtaining guns legally.

There is nothing cautionary about phoning references regarding obtaining a firearms license. It's total :bsFlag: It's only meant as a smokescreen for the purposes of "appearing to be proactive" and a make work project for civil servants. It does (and we all no this) NOTHING to keep anyone safer.

Either someone has a criminal record of they don't...period.

Please don't fall under the completely misguided illusion that phoning references and the rest of the application process (besides a criminal record check) do a damn thing to make anyone safer.

We are not erring on the side of caution..we are erring on the side of stupidity, tyranny and gross inefficacy.

Mine took 42 days from the day it was received. They called me and my references. After my phone call, I received in the mail after about 10 business days.

Perhaps my subtlety was lost on you sir...I said err on the side of caution... as in I recognize this isn't necessarily the best way to do things. I wasn't extolling the virtues of the system at all, I was simply saying that I would rather see another hoop to jump through than a drive through GunMart. Again, my line of thinking is underpinned by the belief that if we are law abiding citizens intending to use firearms safely, why worry? Let the fearful Canadian public be assuaged by these "stringent and rigourous measures"; we know the truth and it has set us free! :D

Clearly you have firm belief in the right for Canadians to bear arms and I commend you on your unflinching dedication to the cause. But don't be so myopic as to not be able to see through the :bsFlag:. Yes it's is a bit silly and it doesn't accomplish much but you have your PAL no? You have your firearms no? Stupidity and tyranny is a bit much IMO when referring to the system. Inefficacy? Perhaps inefficiency is better, Look it up if you need to.

Lastly don't worry BB, I won't fall into the ranks of the misguided. I will however pick and choose what I choose to protest vehemently and vociferously and the RCMP phone calls is not one of those issues.

I never got a call, but that was 2006 when they'd give any knucklehead an RPAL. I've had a long uneventful history back to the FAC days (over 21yrs owning restricted firearms). I did get nervous in 2007 after I got my first traffic violation in over 13 years! LOL!
