Hello gents,

A little while back I got a Llama Super Comanche 8 3/4" barrel 44MAG off the EE (think S&W Model 29 with a vented top rib). Great deal and a nice wheel gun to boot.

I've always loved the looks of a 4" S&W Model 29 but with the silly Canadian gun laws will never own one :( However, that doesn't stop me from getting it chopped.

So off to Barry at Bits of Pieces for the 106mm Chop it went. Just got it back this week. Because of the top vent Barry cut it to 120mm (even with one of the top ribs and a little over 4" shorter than stock) instead of the min 106.

While I wasn't too sure how it would turn out, trusting Barry's judgment was the right call (he did offer to cut it to the 106mm but let me know it might look kinda funny).

Here she is:

Looks like she came from the factory in this length and even the barrel markings are intact.

Overall I'm pretty happy and will be hitting the range tomorrow for a session. Should be fun.

Thanks for looking,

That is superb. Barry called it right on this one. Not only did it save the looks of the top rail but to my eyes the barrel length is visually in harmony with the rest of the gun. Any shorter and it would look too much like a snubby. The underlug, barrel writing and all just "fit". Think of it this way, if you scaled up a 4 inch barreled K frame it would come out looking just like this.

Looking forward to hearing about how she shoots. And I can only imagine the show it would make when shooting some reloads with heavy bullets in front of a load of H110.... Can you can FLAMETHROWER? I knew you could... :D

Yeap, a buddy commented on how it looks like a S&W model 27/28 only bigger :D

I've got some reloading stuff coming so a flame show is definitely on the books.

Can hardly wait

Nice

Looks fantastic. I would like to know how she shoots compared to the longer barrel. I'm looking for a short barrel .44 myself so keep us posted. Congrats!!

Cheers,
Will

Hello Gents,

Just got back from the range and I'm a happy camper :dancingbanana:

The pistol was great and everything went off w/o a hitch.

I'd like to tell you all that it made me into a marksman but my range buddy said he'd rat me out.

However, at 10 yards had no problem putting them where the pistol was pointed. It was sighted in bang on. Thank you Barry!

The gun is a completely different beast now, much louder, more recoil and blazing muzzle flash . . . in other words EXACTLY what I wanted :D :D :D

I can't hardly wait to do some hand loads.

Just as a side note, I was shooting 240gr AE and Winnie rounds for the most part. Nice and stout with a good bang/flash.

However, my range buddie brought along some 180gr Remingtons and they were amazing. Way louder and much more flash. Need to get a box or four of those

And finally Barry at Bits of Pieces did a great job with this chop. I'd say if you're looking at such a project drop him a line. It might take a little longer but it was more than worth it.

Rat you out??? I'd never do that..............and actually I think it was more like 9 yards................:D

Nice job.
