To Orange or not to orange?

Okay even though the pics look a tad oversaturated to my eye - nonetheless I placed 10 blaze orange & 10 mossy oak icons within the frame. Ask any grade 1 'special needs' class which color stands out the most and it will all be the same unanimous answer methinks.

You make an excellent point! So a hunter wearing blaze orange will blend in (to some degree because fluorescent/blaze orange is brighter than it's surroundings)and not stand out like an animals brown/black fur. So again, you will not be mistaken for a game animal wearing blaze orange!

].

I sit still, move around, hunt through thick stuff, etc etc. I'm not concerned, since I am more likely to be struck by lightning, orange or not.;)

You don't golf much do you? All golf umbrellas made now have no metal in them, because getting struck by lightening did happen more often than one would wish. So go hold your gun high and live mighty and reckless during a thunderstorm.:p

Not a golfer, but I've had to sit out a couple of storms on top of mountains.

First thing you do is put some distance between you and your rifle, then huddle down with whatever meagre shelter you an find, and hope you dont' hav to spend the night in tis crap...;)

Muzzle loader deer season I were orange (required).
All other hunting I were camouflage ,my thoughts if they don't see me they cant shoot me.

Really? Would you care to explain how people riding a red atv were mistaken for a game animal?

Maybe orange could be considered the last line of defense against dumb people who shouldnt be holding a gun in the first place??

Yup - there ain't no IQ or stress tests, trail/camp breathalyzers, or eye exams for hunters as of ..... yet. Attention! Attention! The honor system is still in effect for this sport.

The good news is that the range of hunter orange fabrics & available product is so much extensive & better than it was 30 years ago. I think it was in the early 1980's when Polarfleece, Polartec & all the knockoffs, clones came onto the scene - soon after the available products mushroomed & it was never more a hindrance or issue in the noise & comfort department.

Lets see ....

Poor lighting, poor eyesight, alchohol, peer pressure, STOOOPID SHOOTER etc, etc, etc. Accidents happen for any number of reasons that are preventable. That's why they call it an "accident".

That's why they call it an "accident".

I see accidents as things that happen totally unintentionally. When a person aims a firearm at a supposed game animal, and then pulls the trigger, that person intends that the bullet will kill what they are aiming at.If the shooter can't be bothered to confirm the identity of the intended target before shooting and kills another person,I call it criminal negligence at best, and manslaughter at worst.

And if you are so stupid or negligent that you can't hear the atv that the people are riding, and can't see the red color of it,I seriously doubt that is it going to make any difference at all what color the rider's clothing is?

And your point is??? ..... because I agree with everything you say. The point you miss is that there very well could be a dead person in the deal and that person could be you (or me).

Orange will give you a better chance of survival around idiots operating firearms.

Holy sh*t aren't you people tired of that picture yet...

I very rarely wear any kind of orange and usually wear earth tones colour depends on the time of year.

I do always carry a blaze orange vest in my pack but it is rare that I take it out and put it on but then again it is not very often that I hunt where there are other people.

Last time I used my vest I wrapped it around the mule deer buck I was packing out.

How about the rest of my post?

Since you didn't quote that part, along with the rest of the post, can we assume that you don't agree with that part?

I *do* wonder why supposedly heterosexual males save a copy of a photoshop picture of another male in womans clothing on their computer. It always seemed pretty ghey to me, but I guess it was indeed funny when Bone COllector made it, about 10 years ago:p;)

If the would be shooter is that "stupid or negligent" to ignore all visual and audible clues than I guess the rider of the ATV is out of luck.

Orange DOES makes the wearer more visible to ALL other people around. That's how it works and it does work as intended. It's that simple.
