Smaller Woods ???

I feel your pain bro. I've found a patch of crown land near my house to hunt on. Most of the prime areas are on private land and even if you can put up a stand on crown land next to them the f'ing owners find a way to screw you up.

Last week I was on stand and an idiot on horse back came riding by my stand ruining the mornings hunt. You'd think they could stay on their own posted land. He was just looking to screw up any hunters around his place.

Two years ago a friend was set up on some crown land next to a posted pasture. Every time the land owner saw his vehicle parked by the road he would jump on his quad and patrol up and down th fence line to scare off the game. Buddy fixed him though. He had his wife drop him off out of sight and he walked in the long way. He bagged a nice buck heading for the field
(Legally on the crown land). At the shot the landowner tore into his pasture looking to bust somebody. My friend just smiled at him as he gutted his deer about 20 yards from the fellows fence line. Land owner said he was going to call the DNR and accused him of trespassing. Buddy said go right ahead because tracks in the snow tell the whole story.

Helps to KNOW EXACTLY where the crown ends and the private begins. I've had to stand my ground a few times with a private land owner trying to push me off crown. When the deer hunt is on they became overly optimistic as to how far their land extended. I had the maps on my person showing topo features with lot and concession overlays. No issues after they were - um - corrected.

Funny how when the deer hunt is on almost everyone you meet owns the land from here to the farthest horizon.

.

If you left after the fella on the horse went through you ruined your own hunt! Deer aren't at all afraid of horse movement. Ive even shot deer just minutes after ATVs, or people walking have gone through. The deer (if around) just hang back until the figure the coast is clear, and carry on to thier intended route.

phone the MNR and have them' charged in that case. Always bring a camera when hunting.

X2!!

Interfering with a legal hunt is chargeable, in most places. Check with your local CO's.

A video camera is a GREAT argument ender, when it come to he-said he-said stuff like that.

Guys patrolling fence lines or making noises like that, really should be sent to the cleaners. Talk to the MNR or CO, or whoever there is in your area.

You have a right to do what you are doing. It's legal.

You know they are going to be the first to call the cops if, for instance, you decided that the day of their barbecue, was a good day to spend tuning your chainsaw, or if you were running up and down their road with too loud pipes on a nice morning.
These are not retaliatory suggestions, just framing the fact that these are people that think that courtesy and all that, are things other people should be forced to exercise for their benefit, but do not apply to how they should behave.

I've had these issues too in the past. I've even had guys tell me that they have been hunting these 2000 acres of crown for 50 years and that I should find somewhere else. One old guy was yelling at me while insinuating that I could get shot if I wasn't careful.

I eventually got access to private land and haven't had to deal with those issues since.

Thats the kind a talk that people get their guns yanked for. And besides who needs 2000 acres of land to hunt

Seems that crown land is always blocked by private land. Time to gain access to crown land. Private land owners are hogging access by claiming land as thier own. Hunters, What a ya think????

Well, IIRC, there is always a LEGAL way to access land (be it crown or otherwise) "surrounded" by private land... An easement/right of way HAS to be provided... So, if there is ONLY one road in, then THAT's the access road, period, full stop, end of story.

I suggest you talk to your local conservation office & discuss the issue. They have likely heard the problem time & again, and will provide you with some info.

I work for a guy every now and again. He owns a bunch of property that he raises horses and roping cattle on. His property lines are all clearly marked and he still gets hunters in there. Hell, I work for him and date his right hand mans daughter and I can't even BOW hunt on his property. Anywho. He busted 2 guys on quads this year and a dirtbiker last year. The guy on the dirtbike tried to get away from him and he ended up roping him off hid bike. Haha. I suppose it's better then charges getting laid for trespassing.

Yup. Depending on the province, the original sale of land is deemed illegal if it landlocks another property without appropriate easements. If there was an easement, it flows with the land so reselling the property doesn't kill the old easement.

Not necessarily Jay. I worked in the land surveying industry in Ontario for 25 years as a senior technologist, and can tell you that there is LOTS of crown land with no access surrounded by private land. I know of no laws in Ontario that prohibit landlocking crown land. (especially since it would be the Crown itself that would effectivly landlock itself, by patenting the land arround the subject parcel) Other provinces have their own rules however, so this may or may not apply to any other province.

For years the MNR has sold off these land locked pieces of crown land to adjacent landowners. Back when the Conservatives gutted MNR a forestry supervisor I was tlaking with was quite proud of how much land locked Crownland he sold to support MNR operations.

I was out hunting one day and some guy showed up telling me i'm hunting on priverate land.I said I know its our land. The look he gave me was priceless

Now I own private land

I just bought some land this year. 130 acres, crown on east and west, conservation on north, private on south. I guess I'll see what happens now. So far my neighbour on the south has been great, but apparently I have to share the crown, with another gang who also land locks the crown. I guess the shoe is on the other foot now.

The biggest problem I have, where I am, is the "road hunters". It is all privately owned (with a conservation area thrown in), the area where I have my land. But during deer season you always see some vehicles with 3 or 4 guys (dressed in orange) just driving around.
