I'm thinking of starting IPSC in 2010 in open division, cause my only pistol doesn't fit the box.

I'm just wondering now as I'm reading the rule book. My single stack 10 rounder satisfies the 170mm as is, measured as shown in appendix F1, but if I screw on the plastic basepad, it's too long.
So with the basepad the mag is not IPSC legal right?

Yes, the magazine plus the basepad must meet the overall magazine length requirements. IPSC Canada is supposed to have distributed a box and a magazine gauge to every province. You should find out who has the gauge in your province, and get them to measure your mag with the basepad on it.
 
no more 1911 10 rounders? oh well, I'll give up already cause it isa 1911 and that's why I chose open division (not to mention the red dot on top of slide) because open division gave maximum magazine lenght 170mm, mine is under that, but if you tell me they are prohibited even in open division well........

I measured my mag according to the rulebook (see appendix f1 of the rulebook) it fits alright, except for the basepads, which i just can remove by myself
 
If you are shooting open, your mags need to be 170mm or less as measured along the back of the mag. Odds are your 10 round mags with base pads will be fine. If the pads add too much length, maybe thinner pads?

The only time the box comes into play is for Standard and Production.

Standard shooters used to have an exemption so the 1911 single stack shooters could compete with the extended mags. That exemption ended July 1, 2009.

Don't sweat it. You're good to go.

If you insist on continuing to repost this...can you at least be more clear?

And to be fair, that rule had been applied world wide for years. IPSC Canada went the extra mile and asked for an exemption for our shooters. It's not IPSC Canada or the various sections fault that we've been denied the exemption.

To be fair, the IPSC Canada exemption for 10 round .45 magazines should have been given to the rest of the world.

yeah that thread again, and actually it would've been a reasonable one with about 2 or 3 replies to the original question, however some beleived it was interesting to talk about standard and production, which I have not mentionned in my OP.
