I managed to lose a magazine band retaining screw on my Winchester '97.
It's a $4.05 part at Numrich. Just got off the phone with them and up front, CDN orders are hit with a $25 freaking service charge! When the hell did they start doing that? That's it for them...
Anybody know of a non-rip off outfit where I can get this measly part?

Of course you must have already called Western Gun Parts in Edmonton.

Agreed the $25 service charge sucks BUT Numrich is one of the few US gun parts dealers that ship to Canada. They aren't rip-off artists. They have extra work and diligence to perform on foreign orders, and you are paying for the service. $25 service charge for a $4 screw is goofy, but I understand why it's like that.

My understanding is the $25 is charged per order, not per item. You could put together a larger order and easily justify the service charge when it is spread out over more items. Must be something else you or your buddies need? Hell, i could find a dozen things i "need" without even thinking about it.

The best option would have been if you didn't lose the screw in the first place, too late now. ;)

I guess they are covering the customs paper work? Seems flat out excessive. You would think that would be automated like it is with my Fedex shipping system for US shipments from Canada.

I should say they are helping me out with finding correct parts for a old stevens 520-30 I'm working on. So that's nice.

They haven't charged it in the past. What suddenly changed? I've always found their service to be great. The woman's response to my gasp on the phone was "Yeah, we don't get a lot of Canadian orders anymore" They don't seem to broken up about it. Hey, it's their business , they can do what they want. They have bits that no one else does, just be aware you hafta pay.

I never said they were rip off artists, but it is in fact a rip off. They haven't charged it in the past. What suddenly changed? I've always found their service to be great. I still purchase from Numrich, but as one of the previous posters mentioned, you have to have a large enough order to justify the expense. Numrich used to charge $5 for international orders, but last year they up'd it to $25. I'm not surprised to hear that they've reduced the number of Canadian orders... sucks to be us, but sometimes you have to be creative in sourcing your screws.

yop, they been doing it for at least couple of years,
that was the last time I did business with them, from what I understand they put that on all "overseas" purchases but come on, we are on the same fricking continent:bangHead:

I needed a $5.00 spring for one of my guns. Searched everywhere for it and found it on one of our sponsors websites. I needed it yesterday. There was a service charge as well, not as much as Numrich's, but it doubled the cost plus shipping put a $5.00 part over $20.00.. It seems to be the price you pay if you want it to go bang. But at least it works again.
Group ideas are a good idea but usually it is a part that is hard to find and happens at the worst time. You can't wait for everyone else. That seems to be the way it is. I was just happy to find it in Canada.

The cost of export licenses increased dramatically last year. They are probably just recovering the extra cost for them to have the ability to export.

I just paid $29 shipping and handling for a $4 part, but no one else has it. They even had a schematic that showed how it was assembled. It hurts, but for $30 I have a gun instead of a paperweight.

I recently ordered some parts from Numrich and paid the $25.00 charge. However, they had everything I wanted and it took less than a week to get to me. So overall I was quite pleased with their good service and fast shipping. I would deal with them again anytime.
