rem. 710 30-06

With the 710 I've heard its a 'throwaway' rifle. Is it true that after its worn out from shooting its essentially junk and should be trashed since part replacement is not feasible?

Anyhow I would take my .303 sporter over a 710 any day of the week
 
Yes, the way the barrel is attached to the receiver precludes replacing the barrel. IF the barrel wears out or is damaged, the gun is beyond repair.
 
ok, well like I said, I was given the rifle as a gift and therefore I'm not going to sell it, so what kind of life can I expect to get out of it, how soon does it fail?
My range day didn't happen, range was closed for some reason or another so I'm going to go later this week.

Doesn't matter, you've got it now, go shoot it. Like I said, they are accurate, just a poorly conceived design...
 
If you manage to shoot out the barrel in a 710, then you've gotten your money's worth from the rifle.

It's not for me, but if you've got one, then use it.

Methinks they took a page from GM, Chevy and Ford etc on how to build planned obsolescence into a product.
I suspect now they simply hide it better.

I know its going to kick but for the price i couldnt go wrong. he also said he would thow in a bushnell 3200 3-9x40 so $150. so all in all i am looking at $1000 total package , I cant complain there

Any Remington is a waste of money in comparison to a Tikka. You made the right decision buying a Tikka
 
Well I took mine out, I see what you guys were sayin about the bolt being sloppy, compared to my model 70 featherweight, it feels like it'll fall out the back or the rifle.
But...I shot 3 1.5" or so groups with it, so it's good enough to put meat in the freezer.
 
Exactly. Compared to what else is available at the same or lower prices, it is clearly not the best rifle to choose, but once you have one, use it as much as it works.

Better it be a bit sloppy, than too tight and binding up, which is one of the complaints I have often heard.

One-and-a-half inch groups will work fine. :) Have a good hunt!
