Well, I wanted to get a box to meet the storage regs for Powder and Primers. I had seen a box on a website that closely matched what I was looking for;

Now, I can do rough carpentry work, but lack the tools/skills to do this right. I had noticed that a member here (Wrong Way) did woodwork for other members, so asked him if he would mind building something along this line. I asked him to keep it simple, as it is simply residing in the basement by my reloading bench. I have seen some of the stuff he had done, and knew this was a simple project compared to some of the stuff he is capable of doing. Luckily, he was willing to help out. After some discussion, these is the specs we decided upon;

3/4" MDF box (unfinished), 17 1/2" X 17 1/2" X 14" (outside) dimensions.
Two 1/4" removable internal dividers to make 4 compartments
Interlocked 3/4" top and bottom panels
Solid brass hinges/hasp
A neoprene gasket seal between the body and lid to ensure air-tightness

And the final product;

And loaded up by my bench;

I still have to paint, and mark with explosives signage, but am very happy with the result. When I brought it home, my wife even thought it would look nice in the living room :D Thanks Wrong Way, you were great to deal with, and your work is top notch! And I hope Ruger is feeling better, awesome dog!

So it's legal to keep primers and powder in the same box if they're separate or something? I just use canadian tire toolboxes but I'd much prefer something like that.

Also I've heard you should have holes drilled in the box to prevent it from exploding during a house fire, is this true?

Did you just use glue to tie it together? I am building two with 3/4" mdf and on my "practice run", the screws split the mdf. Anyone else have this problem? Should I go out and get glue? The mdf is cut to tight tolerances for where the boxes are being stored so I want to avoid the gaps created by glue/screws if at all possible.

Excellent work wow....you could have a cottage industry there. My guess you could sell
plenty of those on this site.

With MDF you are best off to pre drill the holes with a slightly undersized drill bit before putting screws in since the MDF does not have a lot of room to expand .

man, the distance between your shelf and your bench is the same as mine, shelf looks identical, bench looks of same design, and I bet your reloading room is set up in the furnace room, in the left corner to be more precise?
The last picture looks like a clone of my reloading room, except this area for me is a garbage can. I store primers and powders upstairs where humidity is much less of an issue.

Reloading area (excuse the mess);

Humidity swings are pretty constant upstairs and down. I am in the process of finishing the basement, so hopefully that will also help. To me, it is more about convenient access to powders.

NRCan gave me a $750 dollar fine when they inspected me a few months ago and found my primers were stored incorrectly.

So don't mess around.

Hey Cerdan: How did NRCan know you bought/use/store powder & prmers?
They were making random rounds of houses where they knew firearms were kept, according to the registry. Being the good citizen that I am, I invited them in.

How do you store yours, if I can ask?
Well, after the inspection, the authorities and I decided the safest solution was to store them at the local police department. We have an understanding whereby they can dispense 100 primers at a time, as long as I return the empty trays each time. That way, my safety is ensured at all times.

You're kidding right?

I would be calling my local MP about this if it were me.

What did you have the primers stored in?
