OK this probably doesn't belong here but I figured this is where I'd get the best info.

Where does an average joe find the list of the numbers of a certain firearm within Canada?

For example.. when someone lists an MP7 for sale and says "there's X amount in the country".. how does one verify that fact?

The database suggests that (3 years ago) there were 14 Heckler & Koch MP7 submachine guns in Canada. All fully automatic. All prohibited. 4 in British Columbia. 10 in Quebec.

I remember hearing somewhere that Montreal, or maybe another municipal police force in Quebec, bought some MP7s for ERT-type units. I guess those are the 10 in Quebec. The 4 in B.C.? If I were to guess I would say it is probably Victoria or Saanich Police that have them. I work in the criminal justice system (I am a lawyer) here in the Lower Mainland and I have never heard/seen anything about any MP7's here. MP5, C8, various other things, yes. MP7 no.

The thing I am wondering though is, where are the civi MP7's in the list then? I guess they have all come into the country within the last 3 years. I know Mr. Pat911 has (had?) his MP7 in the EE for a long time. So that is one. I know of another guy out here in B.C. who has one. That makes at least two.

There are at least 2 public agencies (that I know of) that have a quantity of MP7's in semi-auto... we almost had a deal to purchase these for resale to the commercial market, and then the deal fell through (won't bother getting into details on why).

One of those agencies wanted to trade all their MP7's and MP5's in for AR's... they have been quite unhappy with the H&K's (specifically listing support and parts issues as their main complaints).

Now with changes made to the public agency act those guns can no longer be sold, traded, given, etc. to any dealer/private indiividual for resale, etc.. They can only be given to another public agency or destroyed (or kept)... so those guns are now effectively "off the market"... but they do exist and who knows, things could change (but don't expect it). ;)

In theory the guns are "legal" for importation... in semi-auto configuration they are "Restricted" firearms... the problem is finding them somewhere that an export permit can be obtained from... the US won't typically issue export permits for them. H&K doesn't seem interested in talking to anyone except Nicholls about Canadian distribution and Nicholls won't sell MP7's to civilian market (at least they haven't up until now).

R Nicholls is the reason HK support is so crappy here... Im sure if a good company like Questar was the official importer we could get far cooler stuff here. :D

That deal going through was a shame.... I think an MP7 is a pistol caliber would be a better seller though, IMHO.
 
Well I would LOVE one of those guns myself. I often get egged by the cool kids that hate HK, saying that they treat the civvies like crap and nobody should buy from them because of it.

I have an SL8 and a USP .45 and they are both superlative guns (and yeah, they are grossly overpriced but it's only money...and if a guy starts counting pennies he may as well shove this sport up his arse and take up a drug habit if he wants to save money...

Questar, how much would a civvie MP7 cost, were you able to sell them? Can you give us a ballpark estimate? The one on the EE forum I saw was a full auto I think and he wanted something stupid like $14 000 for it!

Share the details, even though you dont want to!!!! You wouldn't get into it then, nor now, just curious as to what happened.

No doubt. A 9mm semi-auto MP7 for the civi market would be a blockbuster for sales. They'd have to sell it in the United States to make it worthwhile to design/manufacture a new model. But they'd probably have to make it in the United States in order to be able to sell it in the United States (unless it had a 16" barrel :puke: and a variety of USC-type features to allow importation, unless it was a "pistol"), and if it is in the United States it becomes damn hard/impossible for it to leave the United States. So it is just a never ending circle of red-tape and roadblocks, plus HK probably has no desire of doing it anyway.

I like my 7" 9mm AR. It works great and is fun. The mags work and you can get ammo for it. Of course it would be great to have some kind of exotic Deutsche Jäger/Mörder, but they are pretty hard to come by (and gettin' harder all the time!)

"public agent" means

(a) any of the following persons in the course of their duties or for the purposes of their employment:

(ii) persons training to become police officers or peace officers under the control and supervision of a police force or a police academy or similar institution designated by the federal Minister or the lieutenant governor in council of a province,

(iii) persons or members of a class of persons employed in the public service of Canada or by the government of a province or municipality who are prescribed to be public officers by the Regulations Prescribing Public Officers, and

Questar cant do anything to bring them in.


The agency that is responsible for supplying ALL of Canada with Heckler & Koch firearms, is R Nicholls. They are also the importer for FN I believe, and a few others.

R Nicholls is very Police and Military based, and dont like regular civies too much. Ordinarily getting certain things may be possible (parts for example) however R Nicholls refuses to purchase them on our behalf.


Pats MP7 is one of the.... maybe 2 or 3 semi-auto ONLY MP7's in Canada that are purchasable by anybody with a Restricted class liscence (same as a pistol)

That rarity is like having a semi-only M2HB and only wanting 2000 for it... not going to happen, they are 10,000 NEW.

That is BS and the data base is inaccurate at best. The NRF guards I did some training with (2006) at a certain generateing station in NB carry them.

There are more in Canada than what was stated in "the database".
