I have been sighting in a few firearms over the last little while with mixed results.
- Bushnell lazer boresighter hit and miss.
-bushnell graph boresighter not bad.
-Removeng bolt,consistant.
Any tips would be appreciatted ammo's not cheap....

Bore sighters, of any kind, aren't for sighting in. They only get you on paper and help get a scope mounted properly. You still have to sight in off a bench.

Two good solid bags on a shooting bench....take out the bolt, get your head back a foot or so, and squint through the bore...carefully bring the crosshairs to coincide - you'll be within a foot or so with the first round.

You're buggered with a lever action, of course, unless you (maybe) use one of those little mechanics mirrors. Even then, I'm not so sure.

Just to add to Tumbleweeds response, remove the bolt and insert a empty shell with the primer removed. This gives you a smaller hole to aim through making it more accurate.

A great little idea I got from hvmetalhead in this thread. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=388701

I use the remove the bolt method, and aim the bore at something vertical like an upright off in the distance. I don't worry much about the up and down on the first shot, just getting the left right close enough to be on paper.

Should work. I used a dental mirror to get sighted in on a target at 25 yds for my son's semi auto rifled barrel shotgun. First shot was on paper.

I just got a Bushnell lazer boresighter and find it to work quite well as long as I do my part and set it up properly.

ie I have noticed that the emitter hole is off center (like the others I have seen) , yet there is nothing in the instruction booklet that tells one how to handle this, so I have been simply making sure the emitter hole is lined up at the top of the barrel.

So far so good.

X2 and for the rest I do my job at the range ti finess it. :D

calum i have the same lazer sighter and do the same as you .spin the the tool until the emmitter is at the top of the oblong circle it seems to work best this way.for bolt guns i still use the look through the bore method.

the easiest way to sight your rifle once it is on paper is; secure the rifle with scope on original aiming point and adjust scope to where the bullet struck. done. try it and see.

I use the Bushnell boresighter with the arbors to ensure that my scopes have retained their zero, or when I switch from one load to another. This requires that you keep records as to which scope is sighted where with which loads on what rifle. Most of my hunting scopes are low power, and this makes the use of the boresighter less precise for those applications, however, even with the 2X EER scope on my .375 I can tell the difference between where the cross hairs need to be with a 380 gr load or a 260. Naturally you should always confirm your zero prior to shooting at live targets.

This is a fact, been doing this way for many years and it will work for any gun that has a scope, most rounds used is only three and it will be on the mark, Try it and save alot of ammo. Just my thoughts.
