Looking at a Model 60 Chiefs Special in .38 with 3" in Satin Finish.

Im told it was a special order revolver.

Its in the original box with all original wrappings, books, brush, etc.

Whats a fair price, and can someone tell me its approx age?

Your revolver was made in 1984, according to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.

Puma,
According to my information your Model 60 with product code (sku #) 102304 was made for one year only, in 1988. What makes your gun a bit unusual is that it has a 3 inch heavy barrel and a square butt frame. The majority of Chief's Specials were produced with a 2 inch barrel and a round butt frame. There's no indication of the quantity produced but I wouldn't think a lot were made. You've found an unusual variation of the Model 60 and finding the gun with factory box and paperwork is an added bonus. Enjoy that new revolver.

Evidently, S&W didn't use the entire AEW serial number block in 1984 if the SKU indicates a model made only in 1988.

Yes, it has the 3 inch heavy barrel and a square butt frame. The box has a number of papers, warrenty, instructions, even the S&W waxed? paper wrapping. Everything a new gun would come with.
I will post a picture of it soon.
Thanks for your help guys!
