Alright I am looking to be legal here so don't come at me with the what if a bunch of kids break in hypothetical situations. I plan on buying a safe when the funds are available but not right now.

Currently I have 3 rifles, and a shotgun all non restricted. they are all trigger locked and in my closet, which is unlocked.

I also have 2 handguns which are in a plano handgun case with a big shiny lock on it. This case is stored in a dresser drawer.

My ammo is in milsurp ammo crates in the basement stairwell a few feet from my bedroom door. They are not locked.

I am sure the non restricted's are legal, and I am more concerned with the restricted's, and ammo.

....and the questions is ?????

Storing Firearms Safely

* Unload and lock your firearms!
* Store the ammunition separately or lock it up. It can be stored in the same locked container as the firearm.

Non-restricted firearms

* Attach a secure locking device, such as a trigger lock or cable lock (or remove the bolt) so the firearms cannot be fired; or
* Lock the firearms in a container or room that is hard to break into.

An unloaded non-restricted firearm can be kept unlocked:

* temporarily if it is needed to control animal predators in an area where a firearm can lawfully be fired (ammunition must be kept separate or locked up); or
* in a remote wilderness area (ammunition may be kept readily accessible).

Restricted and prohibited firearms

* Attach a secure locking device so the firearms cannot be fired and lock them in a cabinet, container or room that is hard to break into; or
* Lock the firearms in a vault, safe or room that was built or modified specifically to store firearms safely.

the part with the unloaded Non restricted can be kept unlock, does that mean you can have one loaded but then it must be locked????

If your handguns are in a locked case but have no trigger or cable locks - you are in violation.

All else sounds good.

Personally, I have all my non-restricteds trigger locked, in my closet. My restricted is trigger locked and also locked into a safe that is bolted to the wall so it ain't going nowhere.

My ammo is free but since all firearms are locked, it is completely legal.

As far as the law is concerned, I am in the clear.

I would suggest you get a safe for your pistol. I picked two up from Crappy Tire for $37 a piece. They go on sale regularly so check them out when they have a sale on. Better still, get a full sized gun safe and lock EVERYTHING up, then you don't have to worry about a thing.

Why are you even asking such a Liberal question? If I broke into your house and stole your guns, IM still going to get your ### locks off and shoot ####, eventually. If you have kids, teach them to shoot and handle guns with proficiency.

If you lock up your guns, your just going to have to fumble with locks if the cops or RCMP come to your house or bad guys.

Are you retarded, or just complacent?

m995 swiss your trolling bs is not appreciated. I am trying to comly with the law. Cops in my neighbourhood all the time and I have had a couple occassions where there have been cops at my door after hearing gunshots. I wouldn't want them thinking it was me after using the registry to see i own alot of guns, and trying to come in my house but if they ever did I want to be legal so I could sue there asses after they did.
