I am looking at picking up a rifle for next season. It will need to meet certain criteria. Since I am disabled it has to be lightweight. It also needs to be short so that the centre of mass is closer to my body (it makes it easier for me to aim). I hunt for moose, elk and deer.
I have almost always had someone with me when I go hunting, but have been going by myself more often lately. This means I need to anchor game where it stands. So spine/shoulder shots will likely be in the cards.
I am capable of up to 400 yard shots, but will probably not have to deal with anything further than 300 yards.
Recoil isn't really an issue.
My thoughts so far:
Rifle:
BLR (straight grip lightweight)
T3 Lite
T3 Battue Lite
No.1 International
85 Stainless Synthetic
Kimber Montana (short action)
Cartridges:
.30-06
.338 Federal
.358 Win
.35 Whelen
.350 Rem Mag
9.3x62
I was also thinking of a Sako Carbine in .375 H&H, but they aren't exactly common or light, but at least they are short. My brother has a .338 Win Mag T3 Lite that I will play with a bit. I could always nick that one from him.
Any other suggestions or ideas?
