I know each pistol has its favourite owner, ot to each his own, or whatever - but, if possible, I'd like somebody to compare two 9 mm. pistols for me (preferably somebody who has shot both) - HK P30L and CZ SP 01 Shadow. Main use - IDPA style competition. Pistols are as they come from the box, no tweeking so far.

Thanks.

I have not shot the Shadow, but I used my P30L for an IPSC match (non-sanctioned) and it performed quite well. It felt nice coming out of the holster (I used a BladeTech holster for the HK45 which also fits the P30L) and I thought the magazines went into the mag well fairly easily. The magazine release takes a bit of getting used to.

I would also consider the USP Custom Sport. I'll be getting rid of my P30L in preference for the USP CS for competition.

Simple really, CZ likes civillians buying it's products and spends a fair amount of time and money supporting the shooting sports. In addition they produce excellent products and provide good access to parts and service through their importers.

H&K on the other hand is H&K, they don't want civillians to buy their products, won't support the shooting sports and are imported by RNicholls.

Pretty easy comparison if you ask me. When in doubt remember the motto "H&K because you suck and we hate you"

I would say CZ Shadow for competition, HK P30-L for IDPA'ish,...although I would prefer the P30-L with a thumb safety.

Shadow.

No question.

The SP-01 is very popular amongst SSP and ESP competitors. Glock is #2 in Canada (Glock is #1 in US - the CZ just doesn't have the same history as it does in Canada).

You'll need to put your SP-01 on a diet as it won't make weight for IDPA competition.

I've seen almost no HK pistols in IDPA or IPSC competition. There is a reason.

Comparing H&K and CZ are like pitting a Ruger up against a Sig. I don't think that two pistols are each others equals. IMHO

Well,...in my experience having owned a CZ Shadow, HK USP's and HK P30-L and tanfoglio,..the "reliability" nod goes to HK. The Grip goes to tanfoglio and CZ. All were very accurate, although the quality control on the HK's are above the others. I find the shadow, and tanfoglio are better for recoil control and DA trigger press, although the SA trigger presses are comparable.

Ruger is not comparable to any of these pistols, and although the Sigs are nice and reliable, the grip is no better than the HK USP.

I have never owned either, but have shot both many times, and my vote hands down goes to the CZ.

The USP line is big and bulky with no real grip. The P30L is an improved version, but still not what the CZ is. The 45, SOCOM and USP .45 are perfect for fishing, just find the ideal fishing hole, tie any of the 45's to the end of a rope, toss it into the water, and voila, a great boat anchor.

Do yourself a favor, go for the CZ, you will not regret it.

CZ it is, the HK P30L is definately a good DUTY pistol, no doubt. But competition? CZ Shadow, that's what it was made for.

Steve, my USP is lighter than my CZ SPO1, has a better trigger and I can reload it faster. Strangely enough it fits my tiny hands well but I do not have the comfort of knowing that I could never break it, unlike my CZ.

And if I ever did manage to break the CZ, at least I could get spare parts.

Mind you, unlike Turner, I have a choice of 3 pistols that I could shoot in IDPA and I have shot the CZ exactly once. I shoot my Malf-O-Matic Para way more than the CZ and the USP when I want to shoot well.

At the end of the day, the CZ is cheaper so you can get loads of mags and they have that elusive thing called customer support. My opinion may be unreliable as I think Land Rovers are the best vehicles in the world.

I'd throw CZ or Glock overboard before HK :p

One could also tie a CZ and a Glock together to use as a boat anchor instead of an HK because a CZ and a Glock are both half of what an HK is.

HK looks cool... but god help you if you ever need a part.
CZ is very well supported by the maker.

That sums it up if you are looking to buy (it's always what I consider first when buying).
