Eeeewww!

Well Bubba was particularly skilled here; victim is a Lee Enfield, 1919-dated Lithgow No1Mk3*

Saddest thing is, the barrel is... perfect. Best I've seen on a non-FTR'ed, pre WW2 SMLE.

Ouch... however, it happens. A shame to see, but it wasn't MY generation that decided to chop shot these rifles. How come you don't see M-14's being sporterised all the time?

Charger bridge could be replaced. Holes in the front receiver ring plugged and tig welded to blend in metal...I've seen far worse repaired.

Now boys, have you seen all of the tacticool sks abortions out there recently? I know you have. There are supply houses that make decent livings selling the accessories for such conversions. I'm seeing quite a few 858s as well and many modified M305s and Norinco 1911 pistols. It's a shame, the Norinco 1911s are close enough to the originals to actually duplicate functionality and performance of the originals.

It's all relative, when the supply is plentiful and cheap, people will experiment. Some times it's a decent job and some times it creates a parts gun. Such is life.

Yup, we're no better, nor better informed than the previous generation of Bubbas. If we see thousands of SKS's hit Canada at the $125 range, our imaginations cannot conceive what will be done with and to them. There'll be some nice mods too.

For the record, as usual - no-one really cares what the rightful owner does with his or her property. Just don't post pics on the Milsurps Forum and expect praise for your handiwork and then be surprised when you get flamed.

Andy, you should have pointed out that if none of the SKS's are bubbaed or ruined, as were the Lee Enfields and other surplus rifles, they will still be worth $125, 25 years from now. It's only relative scarcity that will drive prices up or make them collectible.

I think I'm starting to get it. Collectors should encourage sporterizing as it increases the value of untouched examples. ;)
