On their web site they show the Husky 9.3X62 - but they don't describe the action, just that it's a Husky Sporter. Is this a M95/96/98, 1600 or something different. I'm seriously considering buying one. The ammo availability doesn't worry me as I handload. thx :)

Husky's are the Parker-Hale of Sweden, built on refurbished military actions. My personal 9.3x62 comes on an M96 action (as do most) but your mileage may vary.

Tradex has a toll free phone number, call and inquire about the one(s) you have in mind (1-866-635-2829). Tony will be able to answer any questions you have, just have the stock number off their website handy. I bought an M98 in 9.3x57 from them a few years back, Tony was able to answer all my questions over the phone and I am very happy with the rifle.

Some are specifally noted as either M96 or M98. If it's not noted I would assume it's a 1600. A quick call to Anthony will sort it out.

My x62 is a M98 from TradeEx a couple of years ago. I bought my brass from Hirsch Precision (board sponsor) and my dies from Tradeex. Both top notch guys to deal with. Tony at TradeEx also usually has a wide variety of bullets. I'd recommend either the Speer 270, Hornady 286, Norma Oryx 286 or Nosler 286 for what you'll be hunting around YK. I think the TSX is too tough a bullet for the velocity of the x62. Unless you're planning to shoot Cape Buffalo or you got drawn for bison down by Prov or Liard. Partitions would be hard to beat.

Thanks guys. I called Tradex and left a message asking what action it was chambered in. According to the website they're closed for a week (hunting season?). I've bought from them before (two swedes and a Rem RB) and I know they're great to deal with. B.U.M. - how did you guess - I'm in for the buffalo draw and should know pretty quick if lucky. I'll do it the old fashioned way: 50-70 - 535gn soft cast flat nose - 1350fps and a trajectory like throwing a pumpkin. Back up will be my Marlin 45-70. 350gn hornady at approx 2200fps. Will definitely get it's attention :dancingbanana:

The 1640 rifles chambered in 9.3X62 are not very common here. Guess the Swedes kept them... anyways, they usually are much more expensive than the average 1640, just like the 1651 chambered for the .358 Norma Magnum.

When they specify "sporter" it may be either an ex-military M/94 actions (bent bolts often Stiga or Vapen-Depoten) but it also can be a Husqvarna model 46 made from unissued M/94, especially if it's a rechambered 9.3X62 (from a original 9.3X57).
When they specify "Commercial", it's an early 640 rifle, made from unissued M/38 actions, with the "solid wall" receiver. Later 640 were made on FN M/98 actions.

Thanks Baribal. I've been following your comments and expertise over on the Gunboard in the Swedish forum. There are a very confusing number of variations in these Mausers. cheers

Completely wrong. Civilian market Husqvarnas were not built on refurbished military actions.

I'll add a little bit to Baribal's explanation of the Tradeex jargon.

"Husqvarna M96 Sporter" - is a Husqvarna M46 produced from new as a civilian gun and is NOT a refurbished ex-military rifle. Action is based on Swedish Model 1894.

"Swedish sporter" - This IS a refurbished M96 military rifle, not a commercial built Husqvarna. Rifles made by Stiga or Vapen Depoten Falun are refurbished ex-military.

I just took the plunge - again. Just bought Woodbeefs Husky model 649 off of the EE. Apparently it's the original chambering (9.3X62) and not a re-chambered 9.3X57. Somewhere in my spare parts I've got a Timney trigger and a Buhler safety that just might fit - gotta find a synthetic stock too - and a new scope - and some new dies - $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ don't you just love a new project! :dancingbanana:
