When it comes to M14 shorties, there are other options available for muzzle and front sight
stylin'.
Since I am no longer planning on shooting on a two way range, or shooting much at night, [ ZOMBIE HORDES EXCEPTED ] I personally see no use at all for a Flash Hider on a 14 shorty ...
except to make your 14 look more
TACTICOOL.
However, just to prevent your you know what from falling off, there should be SOMETHING hangin' off the end of the muzzle on a shorty 14.
Tapping the original Chinese long slotted front sight base/Flashider to match the usual 1/2 X 28 TPI threads on an M14 shorty, is the quick and dirty solution. This gives you an M14 matching muzzle accessory that looks acceptably fashionable, PLUS you get to reuse the original front sight, and retain windage adjustment for zeroing.
I do however highly recommend some type of compensator or muzzle brake on a shorty 14 instead of the RATHER GHEY FLASHIDER FASHION APPROACH. A comp or brake is one TACTICOOL add on that might actually have some real world PRACTICAL value.
I have been using mostly the Dlask / Miceluk brakes on my shorty 14s, but lately have been playing around with the YHM AR 15 combination FH/Brakes. These have the trendy "Medieval/Meat tenderiser" cuts at the end, and really make a shorty 14 look ....
Manly?
Of course, this leaves you without a front sight ....
