So I've been creeping round the precision forums for ages, sort of had a slow build going on for years now (2.5) now its in final stages of completion and I"m just waiting for the blueing to be completed. I picked up the elite 6500 tactical 4.5-30 and I have a farrel 20 moa base and some burris tactical rings. As soon as I get it back from the bluer I'll have some great photos up I'm sure. in the meantime its a trued rem 700 in .308 with a shilen barrel 30", a mcmillan a4 stock with all the bells and whistles and now I just want to shoot it so bad. This isnt my first precision (but it is my most involved) nor is it my first Remington. I've certainly been round hundreds (working in a local shop) now im hoping to get some range time in and maybe have someone show me the ropes around the bcra. I just joined mission gun club and hopefully someone can tell me a few things. I'd also like to get some field time in to see what it feels like to shoot with your fingers shaking from the cold. like I say though>>>pics as soon as possible.(it's very hard sitting here staring at the scope and stock)

Hi Josh!

You have the makings of a terrific rifle there! Glad you have jumped in!

As well as being a hopelessly addicted F-Class shooter, I am also involved with both the BCRA and the DCRA. You have taken a great first step in getting yourself involved with the Mission R&G. They have great people, great facilities and there are many match opportunities throughout the year.

It is the very end of the shooting season now... if you want to try your new gun out, we could accommodate you at the Kamloops Target Sports Association "Running of the V-Bulls Match" which is a fun F-Class match shot at 300 and 500M. It is 2 days of shooting this Halloween weekend and we are particularly happy to have new shooters come out. I have many brand-new shooters who have never stepped foot into a shooting competition, so if you are interested, we will welcome you into our happy brotherhood!!

Anyway, a couple of things that may interest you.... In the spring, I will be holding another "Introduction to Competitive Shooting Clinic" and you might find this a great place to start. Keep your eyes posted here and I will announce it in late Winter, early Spring. This will likely be an April event.

I am hoping that Brian (AKA: Oatmeal Savage, "My aren't we Evil?", "Gunsmoke" and "Don't-ask-don't-tell") Myleville will chime in as he is a guru at Mission and he also shoots 308 in FTR class - the very type of shooting at which your gun will SHINE. They have regular drop-in shoots and I would love to see you hook up with him. He would be a fantastic mentor and would love to help you get started in precision shooting. He no longer wears a kilt when he shoots prone, so it is safe to bring your kids to be with him. All kidding aside, he is a good fellow to get to know.

When you try the club-level matches, you can come out and have the TIME of your LIFE at some of the BCRA shoots in the summer!

If I can do anything to help make your jump into organized precision shooting any easier, PLEASE don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers,

Ian Hames

I have done some rebuilding on other rifles for fun but for accuracy out of the box a Remington 700 Police is unbelievable. My son bulls eyed 200 yards with mine after only 20 rounds. He had never fired a weapon before.

New Shooter !!

I am a new shooter as well and Brian has helped me out a lot , he took me out to Volks on an introductry day and it was a blast and this Weekend i am takeing in the V-Bull shoot at Kamloops , Ian has been kind enough to let me shoot his 6 Br on saturday to get my first try in a real cmpetition :D
I shoot at the mission club as well and you will find that the match shooters and Tac shooters at the club are more than willing to help you out and steer you in the rite direction. :ar15:

Don't forget that Ian likes RUM. Its manditory to shoot one of his guns, then like me you will be spending X amount of dollars to build one for your self.

Cheers

I've done some long distance shooting with Mysticplayer, but that was more of a rung what you brung type deal. Just a bunch of guys out shootin the ####. Litterly. When is this introductory course you are planning to run and how much $$? I'm sure there is a lot more to learn then what I already know.

5r

Mine is currently being overhauled by Mcphee , custom barrel / trigger etc , i will be good to go for next season . Rum ?? hummmm what kind:D

Josh;

Welcome to the fraternity of F-Class shooters! Good to hear that you joined Mission & District Rod & Gun Club. Right now we have the longest range (300 yd) of the local rod & gun clubs located in the LM and Fraser Valley. Our range is a great place to start out and develop loads for your rifle. If you join the BCRA, then you will be in a position to participate in the practices (Club 600) and also the BCRA competitive shoots.

I am relatively new to the discipline of F-Class and have only been shooting competitively for just over 2 years primarily at Mission, Kamloops and the Vokes Range in Chilliwack. If you would like to connect, perhaps we can meet in person at the upcoming General Meeting on Nov 2 at the Mission Club.

Ian....now to set the record straight....I shoot a 223 Rem...not a 308 win!....but a 308Win and/or 6Br are in my future plans. You had to bring up the kilt thing didn't you! See you on the weekend.

Brian (aka..."Gunsmoke") My Aren't We Evil

No wonder you can't hit the broad side of my cousin from Chase! Those silly 223 bullets must just rattle against the sides of a 308 barrel. Trust an oatmeal savage to go cheap and try to shoot smaller bullets to save money.

A word for the wise, don't let Brian try and teach you HIS version of caber tossing... I've never seen the neighbour's sheep so bloody nervous in my life.

Well, it's finally done. months of waiting and multiple hundreds later its finished and I'm ready to go. Here she is
